    Coronavirus - In the DR

I don't know about influenza here in the DR, but even from a completely cold hearted pure-economic perspective, the flu vaccine has a huge return on investment. This pandemic reminds me of Florence Nightingale trying to bring sanity to the miserable conditions. It all fell on deaf ears as...

    Coronavirus - In the DR

China, New Zealand. Different cultures. One could be tyrannical and the other has homogenous and cooperative citizenship. It's definitely possible. Just need to get to the R value under 1 (number of additional people infected per infection). Of course, you need to stay on top of your...

    Abinader promises universal medical coverage

You nailed it. Like most things, it depends. If you have a cut and need stitches, they can do that. Any chronic condition is just not treated other then the DR version of palliative care. I got to be friends with a number of chikas in Sosua and the #1 reason that they had for needing...

    Abinader promises universal medical coverage

I assume you're referring to public hospitals. And, yes, it works quite well when there is no alternative. I know a number of people that rely on it for primary care and can't afford private care. Of course, there are limits. I helped ($$-wise) for a older woman to get help with her...

    Abinader promises universal medical coverage

Even modest improvements in funding would definitely improve the living standard for many poor dominicans.

It's already working; think public hospitals.

    Barrio Map of Puerto Plata

They have some. Not all. And, you can only see them if you already know the name. I saw "barrio muy popular" so I'm guessing not a proper name just an adjective.

    Coronavirus - In the DR

That should have only been a short term solution to an explosive situation like that in Wuhan. That it necessary in other countries was just pure buffoonery in not closing borders and quarantining travelers while doing contact tracing. Those needing to be quarantined could have been kept and...

Latinas: Is there truth to the stereotype?

I thought the plane ride does that. I board just plan old me and I emerge looking fabulous if not a chica magnet. It's magical.

    Coronavirus - In the DR

Come to my street. The neighbors at the entrance keep a lookout for police and we all run in doors. Bless WhatsApp and the Dominicans have a natural defiance of authority. It wasn't so cool when the nightly party turned violent, but that was only one capitulo de la novela.

Air arrivals required to prove they are negative to Covid-19, or take blood test upon arrival

I read about the dogs. 94% accurate. Release the hounds. And, I like the idea about a test on check-in. Hard to cheat and accurate (unless you cross contaminate). Might get dummies to check-in earlier too. If you're result isn't available and negative, just deny boarding.

    Barrio Map of Puerto Plata

Does anybody have a better barrio map? In particular, is there a "barrio popular" and where would it be? Or, is that just a popular barrio without naming which one? I found this one, but the resolution is awful.

    Coronavirus - In the DR

All ages are at risk by varying degrees. Those risk start adding up as the social circle increases. That said, I hear you. There are two, teenage boys in my house that are glued to their phones. I keep trying to set them up with home schooling, but I'm starting to think I'll need to get a...

Latinas: Is there truth to the stereotype?

It's a cultural stereotype with some truth. My Protestant German family of origin were uptight about any bodily function so sex was definitely on the "not for conversation" list and women were not to dress or act sexy. I can only guess but women in that culture act like they don't like...
