No need for Covid tests for arriving tourists

I suppose. I'm not the one at risk, Windy. You are quite literally in the crosshairs due to that policy. You can keep on with the "nothing will change, you won't get what you want" attitude, but I don't have a bunch of tourists - and the locals they come into contact with - all around me. Time...

No need for Covid tests for arriving tourists

Ending testing for incoming tourists is NOT a good idea. At all. Most tourists are coming in from the US, which is ground zero for infections. This bug is real, and doesn't care about someone's personal opinion that it's not real, or the danger is overblown. The bug doesn't care that, for...

    Expectations are high

Frankly, until the countries with the largest influx of tourism in the DR, especially the US, gets their infection rates under control. They were doing fine, staying ahead of the curve, until they relaxed the curfews and started letting tourists back in. Double whammy.

    Age gap relationships

Women, especially those interested in men where there is a significant age and/or language and/or culture gap, are going to care more about your money and willingness to help support them and their families, than what color you are. Think about it in reverse. You're 25 years old, good looking...

    The future of Sosua

I think long money is strong money in Sosua. As has been mentioned, the North Coast in general (and Sosua in particular) are simply too good a deal to pass up. It's a fabulous beach/bay ten minutes away from the airport. Money has taken notice, and over the next decade, I think there will be a...

Presidency requests Congress reinstate National State of Emergency

Frankly, I hope they shut the airports back down. There are entirely too many tourists coming in from compromised nations - especially the U.S., and bringing the bug with them. When they reopen, hopefully they will implement some of the measures being used successfully in other countries...

Is 1 July the official date for reopening the tourism industry?

Same here, going to the supermarkets is always concerning, as not everyone is taking the pandemic seriously. In Atlanta, they have testing where you get results within 15 minutes. I'd like to see that (or a recent test result, say 48 hours prior to departure) as part of the security check, and...

POP airport might not open for tourism until 2021

I hope POP does open for business soon, as it's an important link for the tourists and expat immigrants living out there. It's hard for me to justify flying into, as a $700 ticket there can be had for $500 through STI or $350-ish via SDQ. No biggie, as I enjoy driving, even with the crazy roads...

    The future of Sosua

I know a few guys who own small businesses in DR, and others who rent properties. Some do business as a fun hobby in semi-retirement, others depend on it for their livelihood. All think that 2020 will be a wash for them, and have no expectation of a return to whatever the new normal is anytime...

    Television Options in the DR

I've seen a number of requests for cable and satellite info, and thought it might be helpful if we have a central thread that contains all the info. Here's the playlist for Delancer, courtesy of beeza. Anyone who has intel on how to set up satellite or other cable services, please pitch in!

    Summary of Residency Requirements

All, There seemed to be a bit of confusion as to what the requirements for residency (general and "fast track") were, so I'm posting this link to Lic. Guzman's article on the subject. Dominican Immigration Law - Guzm?n Ariza

    Jewelry Manufacturing

Have a friend who is looking for someone (preferably in one of the free trade zones) who manufactures jewelry for export. Her pieces use exotic materials, stones, wood, mother-of-pearl, etc. She has a need for both limited edition and larger scale production. Any suggestions would be...

Need Good Cook for May 7-11

We're going to be in the Sosua area for the above dates, and while we're looking forward to Rocky's ribs and the Mojitos at Morua Moi, we're planning a pool party and a few other events where a in-house cook might make more sense. We'd very much appreciate any suggestions regarding good people...

Impact on Strikes to Expats and Tourists

I'm opening this thread in the hopes that some of the more knowledgeable folks here will take a moment and explain the source of the strikes, and what if any effect it has on tourism or living in-country. Why are folks on strike? Do they happen often? Are there any safety concerns? What if...

    Business Opportunities - What's Missing?

Hello all, While I've been a fan of DR1 for some time, this is my first post. I'm considering moving down to either the North Coast or Santiago areas, and will need to figure out a way to make a living, preferably way in advance of boxing my stuff up. I've noticed that the salaries for expats...
