    Any D.R. Blowback Effects?

Hello All, The intent of this post is NOT to debate the events that are taking place in the United States. The intent is limited to living in the Dominican Republic. So the question is: Are the events taking place in the United States affecting your life in the Dominican Republic? For me, the...

Vimenpaq vs. Domex: La Aduana Processing Fees

An, ah, for what reason(s) windeguy? What kinds of problems with them? Are you using Domex now? How would you compare them?

Vimenpaq vs. Domex: La Aduana Processing Fees

Like usual in the D.R., the right hand does not know what the left is doing. I was emailed from headquarters when I inquired and I was told explicity that importation of cigars was not allowed. Yet I did buy 10 cigars via Domex a few years ago with no problems. Did their policy change? I think...

Vimenpaq vs. Domex: La Aduana Processing Fees

Thanks for this. This is where Domex has Vimenpaq beat by a mile: a separate email for Domex Customs Division; a calculator; a list of taxes, depending on items, for example, I found an article that explained that a digital camera is a luxury item, along with precious jewels, so a regular tax, a...

Can Cash Be Used to Pay the Exit Fine at Puerto Plata Airport?

I can't find the post referencing this but in 11/24 at SDQ I saw both cards and cash being utilized. It seems that people are reporting variations. Probably best to be safe and cover all bases, bringing more than one card and cash. It's hard for me to believe that a big chunk of cash would be...

    Updates on Overstay Tax

For sure per others. Why take the risk? Bring CASH and make sure you have the correct amount. If you can't pay, you will miss your flight.

Social Security Administration to require in-person identity checks for new and existing recipients

Not true. You can change your direct deposit bank and/or your address on your ssa.gov account. You don't have to go to an office. The problem is that for persons who are not computer literate or do not have computer access, that they can now not make these changes by phone. They have to go to an...

    Domex "Gotchas"?

Hello All, Some years ago I ordered cigars from Vimenpaq. They were blocked in Miami (Doral, FL) and it took two months for them to be returned and for me to be refunded. Amazingly, a member here called the Domex office in Miami and was told that one could import a limit of 10. I did that and I...

Eminent Domain Rears Its Ugly Head

Thanks, I sure hope so. We have a family member who is finishing law and has connections. We're going to find an attorney to investigate exactly what is going on and by whom in the form of an official document.

Eminent Domain Rears Its Ugly Head

How poor was my wife before I started with her 13 years ago? How about rats running everywhere, no refrigerator, a broken stove, unpainted cement walls, no windows, and she going out onto the street to find trash so she could cook for me over a fire inside her apartment (ventilated)? This woman...

Vimenpaq vs. Domex: La Aduana Processing Fees

Any tobacconist worth his salt, including in the DR, will replace problem cigars, no questions asked. At my cigar place, La Leyenda, I once bought 30 of their house cigars that I always smoke and put them in my humidor. Come to find out, they were laden with insect larvae that then punctured...

Social Security payments suspended for Americans abroad

No doubt, big cause for concern. However, the processes that are most important--sending payments--are automated. Staff are necessary for new applications, solving problems, etc.

Social Security payments suspended for Americans abroad

Hmm, interesting. Re: Vimenpaq, I have always assumed but never confirmed that they would accept regular mail ("letters"). How much does BMCargo charge? Can't be by weight, can it?

Vimenpaq vs. Domex: La Aduana Processing Fees

I have never liked this cigar. Maybe they were fakes? Near where I live in Zona Colonia there is a Caoba store. It's great for sitting and drinking coffee and smoking but I believe that the cigars are all fakes. I bought their best quality and most expensive robusto maduros and threw them in the...

Social Security payments suspended for Americans abroad

OP Summary re: Expat Addresses AND MORE! If you go to ssa.gov and scroll down, you will find "Record" and "Update Contact Information." When you click on that you will NOT find "residence" address. You will only find "mailing address." That's good because that's exactly what my U.S. address is...

Vimenpaq vs. Domex: La Aduana Processing Fees

Nice! Me? My "go to" is a robusto maduro. How about you? When I was in the U.S. my favorite was La Gloria Cubana, Wavell. It appears that this Dominican cigar is 100% relegated to the export market. I have never seen one here.
