My wife and I own our home in a residencial in the east, for years we have been faithfully paying our maintenance and water fees which include taxes to the administrator corporation of the residencial We discovered the administrator has not been passing these revenues on to the DGII for years, this confirmed after our having visited the local office of the DGII and viewed the payment history of the administrator.
This administrator corporation is now bankrupt and residencial services are in the hands of a new administrator.
We would like to know, does Dominican law despite what the former administrator did, hold the property owners liable for the unpaid taxes even though we paid them up front to the administrator corporation.
Can the government prosecute the officers of the previous administration for not paying the taxes? Can the goverment seize assets of the previous administrator corporation and those privately owned by the officers if it is found they funneled the revenues into their personal enterprises?
Regards,
PJT
