All these questions about resicency. I think a lot of people just don?t need it. Cheaper and less hazzle to just pay the overstay fee, which btw seems to be negotiable.

A good lawyer + a grand + ~3 months = temp residency.

A year later;

A good lawyer + a grand + ~3 months = permanent residency.

Then renew after that to maintain legal status

Migracion is responsible for issuing and renewing residency for foreigners. Go here for a page from their website listing the requirements for provisional or temporary residency:

We highly recommend the Guzman firm for this process and will be using them later this year for our Permanent Residency. Be sure to get Apostilles where required and translations of all documents not in Spanish.

Also get official documentation of your blood type. We needed that for our Cedulas but did not require translation of that documentation.
