According to crime statistics of 2008 Santiago Rodriguez is the safest province in The DR. For instance during that year there were only two deaths due to violence.

Relatively Safe

According to crime statistics of 2008 Santiago Rodriguez is the safest province in The DR. For instance during that year there were only two deaths due to violence.
That province has one of the lowest number of inhabitants (third lowest).
The rate of violent deaths per 10,000 inhabitants gives a truer picture.
Looking at the numbers of 2009 (only available up to August) Independencia would be the "safest" province (5.51) and Altagracia the "most violent" (37.49).

Mind you, all government statistics...:tired:

Blackrainbow is correct with regard to the 2009 data. However, now that we have taken on the burden of DR crime, I am sure the number for 2010 will indicate a reverse trend.

We'll have to keep our eyes on the official numbers.

Misinformation

Blackrainbow is correct with regard to the 2009 data.

There are no violent death data for Sos?a for (the whole of) 2009.
And the available data for the Puerto Plata Province are not that good (5 killings per moth).

We are doing all we can to rectify that situation.

We fully expect the 2010 numbers to reflect all our hard work.

It was too late to edit my error.
When it comes to death rates statistics always refer to 100,000 inhabitants.

I'll guess that's depending of who you are, how you behave and act, and who you like to hang out with.

What he is trying to say, if your wearing sunglasses, swim shorts, flipflops, have a couple of chicas leeching from you, and very little espanol, you should be fine,

In extreme circumstances, if you get kidnapped, be sure to take enough money for a hotel, a few chicas and a few cervesas after your harsh ordeal. (dont worry the kidnappers wont take your money)

Blackrainbow

p.s: for extra protection you should also carry a bowie knife.

Good tips, good advise, good thinking, BlackRain.

A 12' Bowie knife would have come in handy for Victor on the hill. He could have thrown that big ol' son of a gun right through their MF windshield. Those sons of a 'bitches woulda' run like heck and wished they'd never phucked with the Texas toothpick.

Or perhaps we should be more accurate, never phucked with the Arkansas toothpick.

Whatever. It's basically the same thing.

Deep in the heart of Texas, say what?

Might I enquire as to how? Did I miss the Presidential decree forbidding moths from killing people..........?

As to humans: statistics for homicides
Homicides

statistics for femicides: Femicides

Sources for stats appear to be Policia Nacional, Institute of Forensic Sciences & National Statistics Office.

Moths have yet to be entered into the data base, but all creatures great and small are created equal.

It is just a matter of time and logistics.

Femicides have always been considered more than equal. Just ask "The Black Widow Society" for their statistics. And they eat moths as well, with or without Bowie Knives.

Have to admit to being surprised that the database is a little out of date. Killer moths have been with us for quite some time.
Moth that can kill humans is found breeding in Britain

Black Widows might well eat moths but their digestive tracts are unable to absorb Bowie Knives, so for the safest city in the DR look for moths brandishing swords between their teeth. Or teams of Kew Gardens tree climbers with breathing apparatus :) .

Can anyone provide any new updates on this topic. We are relocating to the Dominican Republic in late June with a 6yr old child and I need to know the safest city/town to live in. We are open to anywhere as long as it is safe and we can easily get to stores as we will not have access to a car for some time while we save. (We will be relocating from the U.S.) Budget is under $900 USD. Thanks so much. Also, any suggestions on where to purchase furniture, a good household items shipper and anyone to ship snub nosed dogs?
