Red face Carnaval Parade In La Vega or Santiago?

    Hello:

I went to a carnaval parade in La Vega a couple of years ago and was wondering if anyone has enjoyed the parade in Santiago and can recommend going there?

Does anyone know the parade dates in La Vega and in Santiago? Will both cities have parades this Sunday and the Sunday after that?

    Thanks, Bob

    Default Santiago

I just went this Sunday to the Santiago parade. Raucous, wall to wall, lots of fun and adrenaline. On a wise man's word I chose NOT to bring anything with me, no purse, very little money, just my little camera.

Here's some shots....I will say this event is not for the newbie.

It was pretty cool. I am glad I had a chance to check it out.

That is what I have heard as well. To answer the OP I hear next Sunday is supposed to be bigger and better in Santiago? I mean compared to this Sunday.

There were people there so drunk they couldn't stand up, btw.

    Default la vega

I agree, la vega is the best going. the best weekend is the last weekend in feb. there are areas along the parade route where you can pay to get a sit and watch the action...close enough to be a part of it, far enough to not get engulfed by the action. it is rowdy, but definitely a rich cultural experience!

Glad to see Santiago's carnaval is getting bigger and better each year, but there is nothing compared to La Vega hands down. The OP and Mainegirl should head over there without question. The latest the Sunday in February the better it gets.
