    Default Tips for vehicle buyers?

I am looking to buy a vehicle here and would love to hear some of the tips that people have in this area. I would also love to know of some great places to buy vehicles. Can anyone help?

Don't buy private (unless the person is a reliable friend) and get solid warranty.

I have had very bad experiences buying private, my knowledge of cars isn't sufficient to beable to check it out. I would never do so again.
I think it is obvious what country everyone who has responded to this thread is in, or is it not to you, really??

i went to some dealers and figured out what i wanted, including the year and model.

then i paid a dominican friend to research availability across the island. we had a bunch of options.

we found the cheapest one closest to where i lived and bought it. its been fine (nissan murano)

I Import cars to the DR and know many Dominicans in the auto business. You would not believe some of the crap that is shipped in to the country. Many salvage vehicles, flood, miles turned back etc.. just make sure you check the car fax if the car is imported from the states, and have a qualified mechanic check it out before you buy anything.

YES check car fax. We "bought" and returned two vehicles from "reputable" dealers in Mocca and car fax had the following:

one-junk title in the US, as was in a major accident and could never be titled again in the US

two - odometer turned back 100,000 (not a typo) miles.

So be very careful on used cars. The DR is a dumping ground for junk vehicles from the US.

    We ended up buying new.

Beware of right hand drive vehicles that have been converted, you will get lots of electrical problems where they stretch the wiring loom. It's more common here than you would imagine! OP where abouts are you?
