Hi, I am an attorney from the United States who is currently representing clients in connection with the acquisition of a sizable company in the Dominican Republic. I am having a terrible experience with the lawyer I am currently using and am looking for a new attorney. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions as to a capable attorney preferably in the Santo Domingo area. The criteria I am looking for are as follows:

1) Must be fluent in English;
2) Must be accessible and responsive;
3) Must be familiar with Business Acquisitions;
4) Must be familiar with Corporate Law;
5) Must be familiar with Environmental Law and/or have ready access to an Environmental attorney;
6) Must have familiarity with international tax implications, offshore companies etc. and/or have access to a tax expert (an attorney, not an accountant; no offense but every accountant I met with that was supposed to be able to advise me was regarding these matters were pretty much clueless when it came to these matters).

Also, what is a reasonable rate to pay for a highly regarded experienced Dominican Republic attorney?

Thanks for your anticipated Help.

Here is one that I have done business with.

Hi, I am a Canadian lawyer and would recommend:

Lic. Iv?n A. Cunillera Alburquerque
Abogado
Mustaf? Kemal Ataturk,Esquina Luis Scheker Hane
No. 37, Apt. 102, Naco
Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional.
Tel. +809-565-8723
Fax. +809-566-4001
Cel. +829-262-1099
Email. Icunillera@gmail.com

I have personally dealt with Ivan and have been more than satisfied. He is fluent in English and French and holds 2 Master's Degrees from the Sorbonne. He is very accessible and honest. His father is also a lawyer and, if neither of them can answer your questions, I am sure that they will recommend someone who is competent and honest.

As you're evaluating attorneys also look at Squire Sanders Dempsey International firm, multiple language support, and varied expertise within the group. Not cheap, but quite likely to offer what you need.

I used one of their partners Awilda Alcantara, and her team over the course of several years and could not have been more impressed. She has much of the experience you need, I'm not sure of the environmental area but others in the office likely do.

Send me a private msg if you would like her contact information and intro via email. She got her masters in the US so has an understanding of both US and Dominican mentalities.

hourly rates US$150-$350+ depending on who you're utilizing in the firm.

I would recommend Gustavo Biaggi Pumarol, of Biaggi & Messina. He is a specialist in Corporate Law, and one of the very top in the DR for this kind of legal work. Although he doesn't speak English, he also has several sharp partners & associates who are fluent in English and would also be involved in a transaction. ( Amanda Tatiana Forteza & Edward Pi?a Fernandez)

Ave. Abraham Lincoln #403, La Julia, Santo Domingo. Telephone: 809) 535-1414
