Question weirdo expats what do they want?

me and girlfriend were on the South Coast recently, on our first day we went down to the beach for some sun and drinks, on the way back stopping at a kiosk where we were offered a beer by a 'friendly' American expat he didn't look any thing other than an average tourist (white, late 50's etc) (said he been here on and off for the last 25 years), with a few drinks in our system and having only been in the country less than 24 hours our guard was lowerd, feeling at ease with our new friend we openly discussed travel plans, finances and general chit chat. One beer turned in to many, later that afternoon he showed us around variouse apartments (we were looking to stay in the area for some time), before going back to the hotel he offered to show us around (good fruit etc) We were not phased by this and just assumed he was being nice. he seemed friendly with the locals in paticular some of the more 'easy' looking chicas.
Next morning as promised he knocked on our door and we spent the good part of the day wondering around town getting to know the place, having drinks and talking etc, his tempremnt had changed some what, he seemed alot more pushy narky towards both me and my girlfriend. Again when we parted way we agreed to see each other manana (he and one of his chica's were going to take us via moto concho to a neighbouring town to see the super markets etc).
it was only later that night, when my girlfriend mentioned some thing about how he was consuming our daily plans and time here that I started to think that a trip with him and company tomorrow was not such a good idea after all. There was some thing really not rite about this guy, and the more we thought about it the more obviouse it seemed, all though neither of us could put our finger on it we knew it was not a wise move to go to the town the next day.
So instead of meeting him at our hotel at the agreed time we went early to his hotel simply to tell him that we would be staying in town today for some R&R and would see him another time, instead of just accepting it like any normal person and minding his own business, he started cussing us out real bad and made a big fuss about taking us to the neighbouring town, we had enough and left his hotel room, with him still insisting he was going to come and find us at our hotel and take us there in an hour.
as we were leaving his hotel, the chica he had been hanging around with earlier came running up to us with a worried look asking us why we were not going to the town....Please bear in mind that the purpose of the trip was so this guy could show us a supermarket to buy cheap food! so we were like WTF is with these people, not wanting to end up in a fight or some sort of confrontation with either him or the locals he knew, we just packed up and moved out of town!
What do you guys make of this ..the guys a ****ing weirdo and left us pretty confused his whole persona changed in like 24 hours we just didn't realise it...did he want our kidneys or some thing

Yes it is better to say upfront and be honest about how it works with commissions but that also seems to scare certain people away. Often they end up paying somebody a commision anyway without knowing it.

naw it was NOTHING like that man, see we asked him about the apartments he could give a **** about where we rented, he was talking all this business about coming to our hotel and staying there with us because we had a cheap rate etc, as far as renting go's we asked him and he asked some locals and commis he would have been seeing if any would have been sweet FA

Probably not but after a concho ride to the next town he might have got them, wanted or not. Unless the next town is only a few minutes away, a concho ride really wouldn't be recommended. If you want to go to the next town, go on a gua-gua or bus. That's because on a motoconcho you really are very vulnerable to traffic accidents.

It could have been any one or two of many things: setting you up to have you arrested for drugs possession so that you would pay to get out of jail & he would get a cut from the cops (bit farfetched, that one ) to making sure you were out of town so that your hotel room could be 'investigated' (viz. stolen from, something planted etc etc). If one wants to speculate wildly he might have been fixing to have one of you held ransom so the other would pay. Who knows? And anyone who has lived here 25 years already knows the rates hotels charge, so don't fall for that one.
