Have not been back in the US in three years. I take meds that do not require a prescription here in the DR but do require a doctor's prescription in the US. Will I be ok if I go to a Doctor here in the DR and get a prescription, buy the meds here and then bring them back to the US. In other words will the US recognize a DR doctors prescription. These are not heavily controlled narcotics or anything. Thanks

You should be fine with a perscription. Rush Limbaugh got busted with Viagra coming back from a vacation a couple years ago. I've also never had my bags checked on the US side coming in from the DR.

I always take prescription meds with me when I go to US. Never had a problem. Bags not likely to be checked unless you are on a Watch List or do something to cause them to think you are carrying drugs.

Mr. Limbaugh's problems stemmed from the fact that the viagra which he was carrying into the U.S. (29 pills) was in a prescription bottle with someone else's name on it. He didn't buy these pills in the Dominican Republic.

Anyone should be fine bringing non narcotics into the U.S. in personal size quantities, provided they are not prescribed to someone else.

thanks

Thanks for the input. I just wanted a little re-assurance. Best to be proactive and avoid a problem especially with US customs. I have been placed into the secondary inspection in Miami and they go throught your all your luggage piece by piece asking detailed questions about where you have been. Its done on a random basis. Only got unlucky once. Thanks for the input.

Coming back from the D.R. I have been asked once in the U.S. if I had meds that I bought in the D.R. without needing a prescription. I have have been asked once arriving in Canada too.
