Take a look at this video (In Spanish):

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oIrmhHYaIWA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oIrmhHYaIWA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Do you guys believe this is the correct way to do opposition in the DR?

Please comment...

I wouldn't call that 'doing opposition' so much as a catalogue of names with a list of rants about their 'transgressions' with no proof supplied. If he can't prove it, then it would be defamatory & as El Sol de Santiago points out against Law 6132.
Video: Dr. Fadul mantiene campa?a sucia en contra del presidente

If the political parties had POLICIES then those policies could be debated from differing viewpoints, but failing that..........then this is the sort of stuff you get. :ermm: Very juvenile. But presumably he has sufficient funds to buy the TV time? I wonder if the TV Channel will get sued as well?

And intimidad.3a2.com on checking appears not to be a TV channel so much as an internet chica site........................

"Do opposition" is not a correct term, "offer political commentary" or "disagree with policies" would be better.

At any rate, we have a history in the States of calling politicians thieves and crooks and the fact remains that many Dominican polticians are just that, thieves and crooks. Remember a politician is not considered "serio" here and for good reason, therefore you can't even use them as a reference.

Chip, thanks for the correction, would keep them in mind.

About the accusations even though there's the general feeling that every politician is a thieve, I believe you just cannot start calling them that without proof, and not only that, also accuse them of performing orgies (heterosexual and homosexual) paid by the State money.

Lambada I agree with you...

Thanks for your comment and others please feel free to comment....

With all due respect Extreme, this country could use more political commentary and less polticians like the referenced.

What really irks me to the core is how the polticians dismiss any and all criticism and that's if they even decide to respond. What's your answer to that?

I actually think that the term 'doing opposition' while maybe not grammatically correct, very succinctly & expressively sums up the dirty world of politics here. One can't call what is done political analysis because, absent policies, how can anyone analyse?

I have recently become only too aware of the web of lies and deceit promulgated about candidates because a friend of mine is running in these upcoming elections. Apparently, no accusation is deemed 'off the table' so wild stories get circulated mostly completely without foundation. And new expats might be surprised to learn that this doesn't just exist between political parties. Rival pre-candidates within the same party stab each other in the back, circulate lies and worse, anything to get rid of the competition. And while the loyal supporters of these rivals are arguing the toss, their energies are diverted away from seeing how they are being manipulated. And when they do see it, they are despondant about being able to change it. A very, very sad business all round.

Just don't believe any accusations you read or hear about any candidates in the next couple of months until you see proof.

Extreme is intelligent and welcomes constructive criticism with regard to learning English so implying the term "doing opposition" is correct in any way is confusing to say the least.

Heres my take....

This is a man that is highly intelligent and educated. The background of the family is one of prestige and scholarship. His brother is the minister of commerce and industry and has been the mayor of STI and labor minister. His nephew has been a sub chief of police and director of Amet. His sister has been a congresswoman and a longtime politician. All of his brothers and sisters are involved with the three major politacal parties.

Ernesto Fadul must have lost a screw and a couple of neurons on his path to this nonsense....OR he is deliberately intending to show "no class". His extreme statements are not only alienating him in his own political party (PRD) but is also embarassing the Fadul family name.

But who knows....since he is a current congressional candidate in STI for the PRD maybe this is one of their "savvy political moves" to get him elected....ahhahahahahahaha.

oH dms?? aH HUM....The 'family' has NO prestige. They have a long list of political jobs, which have included, literally, "holding the bag" for Francisco Garcia when he was Minister of Industry and Commerce and Fadul was in Labor...I can introduce you to the people that took the money there...Sister is a back-stabbing "witch"...and as for the qualifications of the guy in uniform, well, just look at the family..he got there through nepotism...

The "scholarship" aspect?? Well I know that the minister did not graduate with honors...but he was a fun guy, that I cannot dispute..the doctor is a nutcase and should probably be locked up...he tries to be a historian but he runs off at the mouth too much...Sorry...for perhaps the first and last time I beg to truly differ with your take on those folks...

But that is politics...and they are politicians..

ExtremeR, you use whatever terms you choose, they are all totally understandable. In fact I think we ought to add 'doing the opposition' to that same generic category of phrases like doing the washing, doing the gardening, doing the Hokey Cokey..........

Wasn't Rosita Fadul the lady with the flatulence problem.........?

Luis...no worries on a different opinion.........

........ thats why I am not political here in this country....we end up feeding them all. I just believe that the many classless things he has spoken about (regardless of which political party up are from) is just that..........classless.

"to do" political opposition is not used/correct. Express or voice political oppostion is better.

I know you appreciate good advice just like I do in Spanish. Unfortunately it's hard to get here anymore. I do have one good Ecuadorian friend here that I make correct me and my Spanish has become better because of it.

This guy is a true patriot. If he had military power, he could install a dictatorship and commence the executions necessary (hundreds of thousands) at all levels of gov't, the armed forces, the police, the corrupt politicians, and the criminal element dragging the DR to the abyss.

Alas, he has no REAL POWER but the gift of the gab.

The system must be purged of the filth, the degenerates, the scum, the rats. It must be culled to the point of purity.

Where are the patriots in the DR who have that nationalistic zeal to carry this out?

Where??

Maybe, just maybe like Trujillo there is some junior officer plotting and gathering loyalists around himself waiting for the right time to strike and BAM,

ANOTHER DICTATOR-one can only hope.

I know Dr. fadul personally. He is aligned with the PRD party, a friend of Hippolito and the rest of the gang. Anyone who knows this man is not surprised to hear him talk in this manner. In fact, people would not expect anything different from him. I don't think many educated people take anything serious coming out of his mouth. he is known to be foul mouth in his family.
