According to Sosua News the following was reported!

Of course the main street in Sos?a, the Pedro Clisante, is full of bars, discos and restaurants.

These include the Merengue Bar, Latino Bar, Central, El Flow, and now the recently opened Rumba Bar - and these are the main places where tourists and residents spend their evenings. But the Pedro Clisante is also a street full of loud noise: motorbikes without mufflers, cars with built-in disco speakers, filthy exhaust fumes, and constant traffic jams. Every tourist centre in the world is closed to traffic, so why not here in Sos?a?

Pedro Clisante a boulevard?Wouldn't it be great if the road was closed to traffic every evening, from the Happy Bar to Fat Herman's bar.
Restaurant owners could set out their chairs and tables, with colourful parasols, along the street. Visitors could enjoy a leisurely meal without being disturbed by all the traffic noise and clouds of smoke coming from the motorbikes, and tourists could stroll through the area and feel perfectly safe.
Of course a solution would have to be found for the parking problem - but problems are there to be solved. The business association, led by Wolfgang Sch?nner, owner of the 'Schnitzel Paradise' restaurant in the Pedro Clisante, is currently conducting a survey of this plan throughout the business community. As editors of Sos?a-News, we call upon all our readers to let us know what you think about the idea of turning this part of the Pedro Clisante into a pedestrian zone every evening.
Send us an email with your ideas!

This is a great idea but could be undermined if all the bars go the way of Flow and Rumba and spill noise and rabble all over the street. Would need some active policing, but the only thing I ever see the police showing interest in around Clisante is arresting putas (from who they can easily obtain bribes for release). So Wolfgang's association would probably have to bribe the police a higher amount than they extort from the girls in order to do the job they are supposed to do in the first place!

That would be great and I've seen them do it before when they had the festivals down the street. It really seems like a no-brainer to me. They could say you can't put tables out on the street proper.

a parking garage is needed...

This is a great idea, closing Pedro Clisante every evening making it a pedestrian street so people can enjoy strolling along quietly or sit down and have a cold Presidente at his favorite bar.

Parking problem! I have a solution that will initially cost money to build a parking garage but afterward will be collecting car owners for parking in the garage.

And where should this garage be build? Well on Pedro Clicante East of the Jewelry Harrison there is a huge big hole doing nothing for the last 5 years... Empty space where the garage could be build 2 or 3 levels and above could be used for tiendas or offices.

That hole would be a place for a parking garage, but wonder if the streets leading to it could handle a concentration of cars in that one location.
But for "a pedestrian street so people can enjoy strolling along quietly or sit down and have a cold Presidente at his favorite bar", many of the bars that are popular, according to the thread on the bar scene, are not on Pedro Clisante and it is hard to imagine anyone ever being able to stroll along quietly.

However, if the owners of the businesses along the street are willing to make it work, I can see how this could be a benefit for Sosua.

But why just at night?

For one reason, the beer has to be delivered at some point, and other commercial concerns also have to be considered.

Although the thought of 'no traffic ever' is an appealing one, I doubt the long-term practicality of such a transition.

There are pedestrian malls everywhere in the world. They maintain access for deliveries and firetrucks and that is it. As for parking, they can allow parking on both sides of the streets on the one ways in town and they turn the traffic circle in front of Banco Popular into more parking as well.

But I agree this makes a lot more sense during tourist season. Closing it off from May-Oct would be more hassle than it is worth.

how many cars are actually parked along that stretch legally- not that many really, if the big 'ole was filled in it would provide some parking without even building anything

Closing Pedro Clisante would break the one way "round about" traffic layout of El Batey and move upper Northbound in town traffic onto the main Hwy from the Playero intersection to the Dr. Rosen traffic light, just making thru traffic hell.
Besides, you would have to requisition MrMike's truck AND WIFE to keep them dorks of trying to make it onto "the strip" with their clunkers for xyz BS reasons.
