I go to the DR quite a bit but find there is not much info out there on live music of big acts in the papers- you have to see a sign posted on a lamppost or a tree or somethign when Frank reyes or Joe Veras is playing, and I often miss them. I wondered if there is an on-line site to access for all -things happenign Dominican in the big cities. I go from May 14 to may 20.. and would like to see some live stuff ( bachata, merengue)

plenty of ads brother but you have to be in a big city to hear them. They got radio ads, print, commercials, got with sound trucks banners at night clubs and so on in Santiago but in La Caleta bro, who knows? You gotta spread yourself around

There are Dominican Radio stations online you can start listening too and they have news and other updates such as concerts and other events. It will also help with el epanol....Laradio247fm.com is just one of them...Dale mi loco!

A big misunderstanding among gringos and the ex pats is that many do not understand Spanish to comprehend all of the noise coming out of those large speakers of the pick up truck, gua gua or car. Promotion of an event or some politician spreading his or her BS? If you cannot ascertain what they are saying, you will never know. Ask someone in your best Spanish if you do not know.

You are not the only one. :ermm:

I also see the adverts posted but they are usually for days gone by or a few days after I leave. There was/is a thread for North Coast events which occasionally was updated but nothing on this board for South Coasters. I guess there isn't a big demand for posting these type of events on this board. If I knew in advance a certain performing artist would be in town I would adjust my travel dates.

There are a few websites listing events at clubs but I don't think this is what you are looking for. It would be nice if Eagles, Platinum, La Base, Supercolmodons, and others had websites with upcoming events. Wishful thinking............

Live Rock & Blues - Saturday Nights in Santo Domingo

Don't know about big names, but there are big sounds every Saturday night at Chalet Suizo on the Malecon just west of Casa d'Espana going towards the Luperon interchange.

Live Rock & Blues with the best interpretations of Eric Clapton, Santana and much more.....good German beers, great Swiss-German food too.

Next Saturday (April 4) "Masters & Friends" with Ken Gelly.

See you there.....

the main place is a club called world they brought most of those guys down the begining of the year. otherwise hard rock cafe. the only place you see who's coming is by the ad's around the city.
there's a new place that just opened if you want to check out a cool lounge called una mas across from the princess tower casino. very nice place, and reasonable drinks for a night club. dont know if they have live bands but i believe they said they were going to be getting some parties happening this summer.

Good luck!
