What fishes are running in the North from may until august? what is the best lure to use for yellow tale and others?
In the Florida Keys we fish for yellowtail using dead shrimp.
The way I've done it is to make a chum out of ground up, then frozen bait fish pieces and oatmeal. (a 50/50 mix)
Just grind the bait fish thru a meat grinder mixing oatmeal in the slurry and then freeze the concoction into a block (10-15lbs)....hang the frozen chum from a mesh bag over board and the chum-cicle melts sending a stream of "food" down current from the boat....the yellowtail will school up and follow the chum line.
Drop your lines into the chum slick (using an unweighted hook tipped with a piece of dead shrimp) and allow it to drift back with the slurry....you're yellowtailin'!
This is a method used by many commercial fishermen in the Keys and will also help attract snapper and sometimes grouper.
