Hi,

I'm currently in search of a Rottweiler puppy to add to my family. I've called a few vets and they all say that they need to get back to me. Nothing available now. Does anyone have any contacts to any breeders either here in Santo Domingo or in Santiago?? I'm willing to travel to get a pure breed with pedigree.

Thanks in advance!!

if you go to arca petshop in santiago about 1 month ago i went looking for a pug and they didnt have any but they did have about 5 pure rottweiler pups. the were beautiful i think they wanted 5000 pesos for each one but not 100 percent sure. they are located in la republica de argentina right before you hit la estrella sadhala on the left hand side you cant miss it. hope this helps.

i would advise personally to get a pure bred either from the states or from europe...

we have seen the fci papers here, and as breeders of belgian shepherds are appalled at how easy it is to get a pedigree here... (german shepherd, father and mother unknown, but pup looks like one, so pedigree... hmmmpfffff)

we know a fantastic male rottie here, with all papers from England. Fantastic dog, great character and great drive... if you would know a great female... I think the owners would be interested...

Yes I would say the same thing get your dog from somewhere else! I got a Chow-Chow puppy from a vet/food store here in Puerto Plata they said he was pure bred for 5500 pesos and when I saw him he was clearly not a pure Chow-Chow but was so cute and beautiful I could not resist! I think he was mixed with a German Sheppard but had the key traits of the chow-chow (purple tongue, fuzzy fur, and short paws)

Rottweiler puppy

Here in jarabacoa there is this pet shop called Animal Planet wich every so often gets a litter of pups of different races, pure breeds and are given up for free. a few months back I reckon about 4 they where giving Rottweilers puppies. boys and girls with first shot for free and already de-wormed. Its where I got my daughter Bekka. she is a feisty and incredibly sweet Rottweiler. I hear from the petstore owner that he is getting a litter of labrador retrievers but he is sure next year or earlier he can get another rottweiler litter. goodluck!

Our rottie just had a litter in Ocoa a couple of weeks ago, my brother-in-law in SD is taking care of selling them. I don't know how many are left. Mom and Pop are on the premises, we own them both. They're beauties. Send me a pm if you're interested - you'd have to go to Ocoa to have a choice, or he can bring one to the capital for you.

PS You also need to speak Spanish, he doesn't speak English.

Where is Ocoa, I'm considering.....

Our property in San Jose de Ocoa is in the mountains.... northwest of Bani, below Constanza.... I'm not sure how to get there from Santiago, we go from Santo Domingo on the San Cristobal-Bani Hwy, and then turn right up the mountain to Ocoa......

Is there a female left ? Back in the states I had 3 beauties at one time and other than hating their food bill they were my best friends. I don't want a male because of.....you know why......
Also, I'm not quite crazy enough to have purchased a car as yet so I'll have to talk to my taxi guy to see if he can take me without taking a loan out at the bank.

I'll call my husband's brother tonight and let you know how many of the litter are left, and their sex.

We know a vet in Santiago... young girl, but very well trained... she breeds Golden retrievers herself, but is very well connected with all the breeders in the DR... if you cannot find your liking with the puppies on offer in Ocoa, pm me and I will give you her contact info...

Stop puppy farms everywhere....

Whilst not wishing to ?tar all with the same brush?, may I express my extreme concerns regarding anyone buying an ?alleged? pure bred pup from a Pet Store or, indeed from the roadside or traffic lights in any town or city (not only in the DR).

It is important to see at least one of the parents, preferably both, before parting with your hard cash for what will always be a cute little puppy ? all puppies/ kittens are cute ;)

More importantly, please bear in mind, particularly when not viewing the parents and the home in which they have been living, that you may well be buying a cute puppy which has been born to a bitch in a ?puppy farm?. It is possible that you are buying a puppy born of a bitch that has bred pups from her first season and every one thereafter until she is so worn down/ out that she is discarded or put down at quite a young age. There is also a probability that you may end up with a grown dog with genetic defects and social problems due to a high level of inter-breeding.

The more people who buy these pups will only encourage this type of breeding where dogs are merely kept in cages all their lives with no freedom which is vital to their development and mentality to socialise with us as humans.

Puppy farming is big business and big $$$$$ - only by not succumbing and buying these badly bred puppies will these breeders stop.

I know it?s obvious but this is just a warning and reminder to all - there are, of course, a good number of caring, bonafide breeders of good quality happy dogs who will be loyal, faithful, protective and a pleasure to their owners ? please make sure yours is one of these.

Whirleybird is absolutely correct. In our case, we had a beautiful female Rottie in SD, and from her first litter we wanted to keep a male. My husband's brother took him up to Ocoa to keep him separate from his mother to avoid inbreeding. About 2 years later the mother was poisoned in SD, and we bought another female to replace her. She was too much for my mother-in-law and my husband's youngest brother [who lives there] to handle when we weren't there, so she was brought up to Ocoa to live with the male [born from the other female]. This is her first litter. We are not breeders though!!

Puppy mills are horrible places regardless what part of the world they are in.

Sorry to be off topic but I just wanted to share some photos of my dog, Nina.

I have heard bad things about Chow Chows for years. Below are some photos of my Chow Chow. I?ll say that this is the best dog that I have ever had. She is very smart and well tempered. She has the purple tongue and gets very fuzzy when I don?t cut her fur. She has papers, but who really knows .....

The Rottie Litter

Just spoke to my husband's brother - very sad news. The vet gave a shot to the mother and she stopped producing milk. Three of the puppies have died. They are now feeding the remaining 4 [2 male, 2 female] by bottle. If anyone is interested he's asking $5000 pesosRD - PM me for his cell phone #. [Reminder - Spanish speakers only]

very cute dog. At first sight I would say she is a little small to be pure bred, but this could of course be the angle of the shot. And she looks a little light coloured. Having said this, this could easily be the climate, as we noticed a number of our dogs also changed colour since they live here. As I said, beautifull dog...

Puppy farms are terrible places... we know of 2 in Belgium, where as much as 60% of the puppies die, and the bodies are thrown onto a pile and burned...

Although this is illegal in Belgium, those places still exist and thrive, for 2 reasons:
-most people decide they want a dog, and do not want to wait untill a good litter of the breed of their choice becomes available with a responsible breeder (or a hobby breeder like Alter Ego's brother)
-a lot of those places offer dogs, which can be paid for in installments... We always say... if you cannot afford to pay for the dog, you cannot pay for its upkeep, shots, operations, etc...

If you want a dog now, go to a responsible shelter and adopt one... there are plenty of nice dogs looking for a new home... one word of advice though to first-time owners of a dog... if you go to a shelter take a person, preferably trainer, who knows about dogs... It is a sad fact that a lot of shelters will tell you what you want to hear about their guests, in the hope of you adopting one (is he good with children... sure... and you come home and he has lunch on your 2 boys... lol). A lot of dogs in shelters have an unfortunate history, which has influenced their characters... be aware...

JD, our rescued Aussie is a lovely dog, but as he was brought up with 2 Staffords, he has also learned how to fight (for survival), and he has caused a number of problems in our group because of this... and it took us almost 2 years to get him to trust us completely, as he was abused by his former owner...
Then again, he is a lovable dog and we would not want to miss him for the world...;)
