Default MORPHINE - Anyone know where we can get some?

    Hi people

Does anyone know where we can get Morphine in tablet form?

My partner, Tina, is on MST 30mg twice a day and will run out of it in a few days time. In the UK, her doctor could only prescribe a month's supply as it is a "controlled drug"so she wrote a "To Whom It May Concern" letter to any fellow doctor out here to confirm she proscibes it.

On Whirleybird's advice, we approached the chemist in Cabarete but, helpful as she is, she THINKS we might get it in Satiago but is not sure, and thinks we might need a Dominican prescription anyway...?

If any of you know where we might be able to get it, IF we need a prescription (or if her letter will do) or has any other useful information, we would be very, very grateful...?

I am sure you will need a dominican prescription - so that would be your first point of call. It is available in this country, but sorry cannot help you with where exactly in the North. Probably at a pharmacy near to or attached to a hospital or clinic.

    Thumbs up Morphine availability

Out of country for three years due to health problems...But, strongly recommend, based on past experience, Centro Medico Bournigal in Puerto Plata...Santiago may be your best bet, but I cannot say..Good luck.

You have several options, but I would start with going to see a local physician who can write you a prescription. It's always best, as many are not going to sell controlled substances without a script, and better for you as well. Also, if the Long-Acting Morphine is unavailable locally, there may be something comparable such as Long-acting Oxycodone that may work until the Morphine arrives. Hope this helps.

Yes, the farmacia at Central Medical Bournigal in Puerto Plata would be a good place to start. If they don't have it, they are good about calling around to see where it is available in Puerto Plata.

You will most certainly need a prescription, and not a regular prescription. There is a special prescription form and procedure for obtaining medications on the controlled list, which morphine certainly will be. They can only prescribe a limited amount here, too.

Not sure how persuasive a letter will be, since somebody determined to get drugs could easily fabricate something like that.

You should have started your search earlier. What sort of specialist was treating her in the UK? If we know the specialty needed for her case, we may be able to suggest a competent doctor that she can go to.

I hadn't realised you had started a thread on this as well, Colin, as I was busy researching how the substance is branded here, in order to give you the correct name so that I could answer your PM on this subject.

Just to confirm what I said in the PM for the benefit of anyone else, IF it is a controlled substance here (& I gave you the website to check that), then as Ken says, only certain doctors are licensed to prescribe substances on the controlled list.

But the good news is that we know it has been available here as Dimorf for at least the last 6 years and there will likely be other brands also.
Sulfato de morfina, analgésico espinal de alta eficacia

Might be worth calling in at CMC just outside Sosua to see if they have an available doctor to write the script.

    Smile Paracetamol y codeina

There is a "new" drug on the marked, it is named TYLEX CD. It is codeine phosphate and paracetamol.

    500mg paracetamol, and 30mg codeine.

The Tylex costs 1000-1400peso for a box of 30.

    Hope this info is helpful.

edit: You can get a doctor to write you a prescription for 800peso at the CMC, but you dont really need it, just call the pharmacia and the deliver to your door if you are in a very bad shape.

Would you happen to know if Tylex CD is available in effervescent form? If so, it would be great for me but don't think it answers the OP's question re Morphine.

morphine is a controlled substance and you do have to have a prescription from dominican doctor in order to get it.
try visiting doctor mejia in clinica brugal, he speaks perfect english and can probably write a receta medica for that.
as for a farmacia taht may hold this drug: either centro medico bournigal or farmacia popular (calle beller, close to the cathedral).

Codeine transfers in your system into morphine. So i was hoping this info could help the OP in some way.

I have no other information regarding this medicine at the moment.
