She's very beautiful - her father was born in Calabria Italy, the article I read said she was from Higuey, not Santiago. Does the press ever get stories straight? An Italian friend called me today to tell me [he and his wife had watched it live] that a Dominican girl had won the title and they thought my husband would be interested to hear that. He said her Dominican mother had abandoned her when she was small and she was raised by her father, but that the mother was in Italy for the pageant and there was a very moving reunion on TV. Apparently this is a big deal in Italy.
