What am I seeing?

I live between Sosua and Cabarete. For the past hour, directly overhead, I see a light, like a star. It is moving fast, faster than an airplane. It's moving erratically, changing direction, high up. But, over the course of an hour, it still is basically directly overhead, almost completing a full circle.

What could this be? Do satellites move that quickly? It can't be a plane. It's not heading anywhere. And it can't be a star, as it definitely is moving fast.

Any astronomers out there who could help? I sat and observed it in several places just to make sure I wasn't going crazy.

Please help with the mystery!

It's a satellite. It's sort of shocking the first time you see them, but there are many up there.

Really, Seamonkey? Thanks! As many times as I have star gazed by my pool, I have never seen this. You solved a big mystery and assured me that I am not crazy.

I think those were the Klingons!! ;)

Because Cardassians do not go in circles, they go in squares, and Vulcans do half-moon maneuvers. It's well known that Klingons do erratic maneuvers that appear full circle moves. Take care :)

Uhuh, a satellite "moving erratically, changing direction"... yeah... :ermm: . Must be from the Dominican Space Program then. Shocking indeed!

It's "definitely" an UFO. These greenhorns probably stopped by, tried some Presidente, too much of it, and now have a hard time staying on course... buzzed. Just like everybody else dealing with this country, they need some time to adapt. That's all. Try to throw some Rapidita at them, they might need it to get their act back together.

Satellites are either geostationary (stay put and are only seen as the sun reflects against them) or pass by in a straight line (orbiting), but they never move erratically nor do they change directions. :cheeky:

Hundreds of my relatives live in Middletown, NY, near Pine Bush, NY, which has one of the highest number of UFO reports in the world. Several of them say they've seen them in the sky, and my mom's sister and her husband [very quiet and conservative people] swear they saw one on the ground in a field on a deserted back road late one night. Okay, if I see it tonight, I will take a pic. Thing is...it just looked like a star to me (was golden-yellow, though). But then when I noticed it was moving fast and not in a straight line or orbit, then I was confused. When I first noticed it, I was floating in my pool, so I got out and lay on the pool lounge to make sure my eyes weren't fooling me. Sure enough, it was still there. Hope I see it again. If I do, then I will post here and I want everyone to go outside and see for themselves!

Sat in a traffic jam once, close to Stone Henge years ago. The cars came to a complete stop when people began to notice something exactly as you've described Lindsey. Lots of people got out of their cars. It was daylight too, but still could see this very bright light darting around the sky, up and down, left and right, diagonal, backwards and forwards moving like no other aircraft I've seen before. Never been able to explain it, you just know it's not 'normal'

Well, hoped to see stars tonight, with the remote wish that I would again see the moving object. However, the heavens are not cooperating. Clouds.

Did lots of research today. The U.S was launching a huge blimp to get better pictures of the oil slick in the Caribbean. Was it flying over the DR? A young man in the US did some robberies, then stole a plane, which he crashed in the Bahamas last night. What flight track did he take? Was he lost? NASA launched something recently.

Lots of scientific possibilities......but what if......
