Default Contact with local NGO wanted

Bikes for the World - Help us to Help in the DR

Bikes for the World bikesfortheworld.org - Home is a mid-Atlantic region NGO which collects thousands of unwanted used bicycles annually and donates them in Africa and the Caribbean Basin to health, education, and microenterprise programs. Bikes for the World operates by mobilizing more than 100 community organizations and hundreds of individual volunteers to collect, prepare and ship container-loads of bicycles, focusing on building public awareness and concern for international development.

Partner NGOs in Ghana and Costa Rica work closely with Peace Corps volunteers. Active PCVs in several countries have identified additional candidate NGO partners. Here in the United States, members of the Friends of Panama regularly load containers -- holding on average more than 450
bicycles -- for an NGO in that Central American country; the Friends of Ghana has done so in the past. The Friends of Liberia recently provide partial funding for an initial shipment of bicycles to an NGO in their country-of-service.

Bikes for the World wants to strengthen efforts in the DR. They are looking for a strong Dominican NGO that could use regular container shipments of bicycles to further its mission, whether it be for use in education, micro-business or health care delivery. If you have suggestions, please contact Keith Oberg, Director, Bikes for the World.
