We are a couple that have permanent recidencies and will apply for citizenship. But for this we need the original birth certificates which the immigration office took during the recidency process. We need the originals back from the immigration office. Anybody else that has had experience of this problem? How do we get back the originals?

Hi Ocean

Sorry but I don't understand which country you are referring to? Sounds like Canada but it is not clear. We obtained several copies when in the DR as they are always useful.

I work for a fed gov dept in Canada and we request original birth docs from our clients but once the process is complete, we make certified copies for our records and return the originals via registered mail provided we have up to date address and contact info. Have you moved or changed info since the processing happened? I would suggest you contact immigration and ask them to return your originals. You may also be faced with ordering new ones if you need them right away.
