For anyone that has an interest in DR history, you may want to tune into the Biography Channel. They have been running a piece on Porfirio Rubirosa.

I never heard of this guy before today. He appears to have been the original mega-Sanky, and was quite an intriguing fellow on the world stage.

Biography Channel in Santo Domingo with Sky is channel 256. Happy viewing. :bunny:

You had a wrong concept about Rubirosa, this guy is considered a "play boy" as he dated lot of the prettiest and richest women around the world thanks @ his fellowship for Trujillo.

He used to party with Ramfis Trujillo in Los Angeles. I read that some time ago. Where they would go to parties with Hollowood stars and date them.

I remember hearing his name a lot when I was a kid, to me [at that time] he seemed so handsome and worldly. He was called a playboy, but if you stand back and look at his 'conquests' and the financial rewards he stacked up, Toober isn't so far off when he calls him a mega-sanky. Apparently he was also famous for being 'well-endowed'. First link calls him a gigolo - which is kind of a sanky in Italian:cheeky:

I remember when they called those big Pepper Mills that they have in fancy restaurants 'the Rubirosa', as they were supposed to approximate his 'endowment'. I think its fair to call him the first 'sanky'.

I doubt he would be the first Sanky as famous women lined up to go to bed with him. Dude was a playboy not a "sankie". He had Trujillo's blessing behind him so he already had power before meeting all those women, including Zsa Zsa Gabor.

And you don't think dumb women from around the world line up for the sankies today? Sankies aren't looking for power - they want money! From wikipedia: Duke (whom he married on September 1, 1947) and Hutton (whom he divorced just 53 days after their December 30, 1953, wedding) made him wealthy: Duke gave him $500,000, a stable of polo ponies, several sports cars, and a converted B-25 bomber, and gave him a 17th Century house in Paris in the divorce settlement; Hutton bought him a coffee plantation in the Dominican Republic, another B-25, and paid him a reported $3.5 million in their settlement.

Not bad pay for 53 DAYS of wedded bliss.

Yeah, but I really don't think renowned world famous actress will even give a sankie the time of the day. Ask your husband if he believes Rubirosa was a sankie. Au contrarie, every man in the world wishes he accomplishes half of what Rubirosa did.

No doubt Rubirosa was in a class of his own.

Not long ago I brought up the word sankie in a conversation - our son [31] knew precisely what I meant, and my husband didn't have a clue. Son was exasperated with his father, haha. I guess they didn't exist when he lived there. Hmmm... well, he did work only at hotels/casinos in SD, so they probably existed - but maybe called something else back then?
