Is is for personal or business? It depends on what you goals are. Getting on the search engines can be very important. I know some great web people in the Dr.I know some motoconchos that might do it very cheap too :)

We have a personal website, made it ourselves with web-to-date, very basic but fine for what we want for the moment.
We pay $9/year for the domain name and registered it on 000webhost for free.

A website says more about you than simply the content. Studies show that most folks won't even read beyond 7-10 seconds on a commercial non-news website unless highly interested, usually spurred by visceral stimuli and not words.

A cheap, poorly constructed, hard to navigate, poorly worded, overly complex website with bad pictures, cheesy graphics, misspellings, poor use of grammar, with poor SEO, etc. can reflect negatively on the online perception of the business/owner on potential customers just as cheap shoes, dirty, unstylish clothing, poor personal hygiene and a bad haircut can reflect poorly on a business/owner in person. Perception is reality, and perceptions often prevent the furtherance of a business relationship.

The sad part is most folks with a bad website don't know they're bad.

A cheap website that yields poor results is worth the "cheap." A solid professionally constructed website that creates a better image and yields better results may be, cost per sale, the better bargain.

Unless one is a professional in a given area, one usually gets what one pays for.

And keep this in mind when you design ANY marketing/advertising strategery: what the customer buys is often not what the seller thinks he's selling.

free or free ish

Wix, I paid the 10 bucks a month but the servers are always in flux and so it was blocked at my place of employ--bummer!

Wikis can be tweaked to look good...ad free costs.

NING is what you want if it is social networks/forums with some content.

Not free anymore.

Google sites look good to me not sure if you can add forums.

flash and sound

Dominican websites love FLASH and weird little noises.

Take Cap Cana Heritage school site. Flash and noise.

Another website is EDUBI. Flash and noise.

No offense to johnny but yet another dominican production of flash and weird noise.

Content is everything. Some of the best sites I read are very plain black on white. Words and images matter. Flash and weird noises--not so much. Technology does not always enhance content....

Technology does not always enhance content....
Absolutely. Sometimes less is more.

High tech needs to blend with high touch, art blended with technology, the right brain blended with the left brain, words expanded with vivid, relevant imagery.

The best sites are those in which you feel immersed. NOT the ones that seem to be lecturing you.

Dominican sites tend to be flash and graphics heavy, but that is part of how the pieces of the culture relate to each other. A "Presbyterian" site won't appeal to the innerweb saavy, hip Dominicans. Indians are very similar.

I would like to survey the people here on "best of" Dominican websites. I bet there are some amazing ones.

Cobraboy don't think I don't know you are the keeper of my coffee dreams...so you will get total agreement from me :)

RUSO is soooooooooo lucky.

Cobraboy and MaineGirl have given the best advice free, that propably cost thousands of dollars through a one on one /hr consultation with an experienced webmaster.

Why a website? Is it to personal or business? The word website means you want the www. for that stuff. And that means world wide web..you want to go global, give something an online presence.

Content creation,Traffic generation,pre-selling of a site and monetizing it comes with the value cost otherwise your website has no online presence.

Good-luck.

web-site

My dear friends. Thank you very much for your answers and suggestions. Web-site needed for myselve and for my small business. I do not need to be the first in a special search in Google, only for the direct interest of my clients. By asking the question I would like first to know your prices. I'm aware that this depends on many factors, so i marked that i need a cheap option. Then we will talk personally. For me will be better to find specialists who live in Sosua or Cabarete, that we could talk about the idea personally.
Thank you very much and good luck

In my opinion is better to pay some money to a specialist, that to do **** by myself free without paying money.

You took the words right out of my mouth, if i visit a mickey mouse website i exit straight away, now maybe thats wrong but many people will do the same as the site will reflect your professionalism, cheap and unprofessional site= cheap and unprofessional business...

However that doesnt mean you have to spend a fortune creativeliza (from design intense) a DR1 member did my site and it was not at all expensive and she did a great job in my opinion.

The Circus of Dreams

She is very creative, friendly and all round good egg!!

Ruso, I use 3IX - www.3ix.com - 3iX provides reliable web hosting, 1 dollar web hosting, cheap web hosting for two of my domains. I have them both on one account, for which I pay 3 US dollars per month. They also have 1 USD per month plan, paid annually ($12).

There was a period that I had problems (slowness), but after they moved me to a different server it was working great. I have a basic site there and used it for email.

Now I use zoneedit for DNS and have my email with Google Aps (Standard edition) which is free, working great, and can have up to 50 users - Google Apps Standard Edition helps groups build communities - Google Apps Standard Edition

I register my domains via MadDog Domains (part of Godaddy) - http://www.maddogdomains.com/

My aunt tried out this company online to build her floral website about a year ago. Turned out to be pretty good. They are very cheap and fast. Stark Buys
