I had an interesting day today. I decided I would get both stickers for my car.
I went to the BanReservas in Sosua, stood in line 40 minutes, told the girl I wanted to pay for a revista. Nope, not here, go to Cabarete! What? I was really ****ed off at this point. I thought ok, screw the legal way, I'll just go buy an illegal one from one of the Amet guys on the corner. No Amet guys anywhere, and come to think of it I haven't seen them at that corner in a couple of weeks.
Now on to the Marbete. Went to BanAmerica. Place empty, one teller. Told him what I wanted, no problem. 30 seconds later he's trying to call the DGII to do the renewal. He can't get them on the phone. After 5 minutes of trying he goes into the manager's office. They try from in there. Meanwhile a lineup of people is starting to form behind me. 20 minutes later he finally gets through and they process my renewal, manager is none to happy at this point. 30 seconds after he gets off the phone I'm out of there with my shiny new sticker.
So as painful as it is to do things in this country, getting the marbete was fairly simple and straightforward. The revista is still outstanding. I'm not sure how long before they start fining people for not having it. And I know this question is rhetorial, buy why is the cheapest sticker, actually it's so cheap it's a joke, the most difficult and painful to obtain? Glad I only have to deal with it once a year.
Oh and I either read here somewhere on DR1 or heard from someone that they are out of legal stickers. Evidently so many have been taken to be sold illegally that they have run out of legal ones to sell so one can only get them illegally. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?
