So, this might not be a big deal for some of you but considering I had only purchased a rod 5 hours before hand and then sat on the Malecon at Miramar and within 35seconds felt myself getting pulled into the water it was quite a buzz.
Anyway, the first couple must have been big as they snapped my line, I grew some sabe and decided to wait until he was tired, pulling in a bit at a time rather than pulling as hard as I could. I got the thing under me, baring in mind I was 20' up on a reef and then he pi$$ed off. I did see him and he was about 2' long greyishy belly and spotty brown on his back. Any idea what he could have been?
I feel I might be slightly addicted to this game as it gave me a good adrenaline kick, but it might have been better to actually catch it so it was in my belly than see it and have pi$$ed the both of us off for nothing.
Anyone any tips on fishing off the miramar for these little (I presume) sharks?
Apart from don't eat coastal sharks around Santo Domingo/

I advise that you throw your fishing kit out immediately.

I agreed to go fishing one time with my brother in law in a cold and nasty seaside town in Wales - that was 15 years ago and I never recovered.
My life has been a mess of tracking down bait, tackle and bizarre road/plane trips ever since.

I seriously advise you take up smoking crack as this is more compatible with family life.

By the way - what were you using for bait?
What kind of leader were you using.
How far were you casting?
Are you going fishing tomorrow?
Can I come?

Oh yeah - and sharks do not taste good because they are full of p!ss because they process their uria through their flesh rather than through a kidney or whatever....

Mike is that true or not??

hahahaha, it is quite a buzz isn't it. I bought a rod on indepencia as my lass told me I need to chill out without going to the Colmado. I bought some red fish from the supermarket as they were the cheapest, tied/wrapped/sort of 5 hooks to it with 2 of them trailing the fish I had cut in 4 as fillets. Lobbed it out as far as I could (ok the first 2 fell off and I got the hook caught in my shorts twice as the bait went further than the hook, the first nearly taking my eye out) and let it float down (can't believe I said 'float down', is that not sink? lol)as I've seen on the descovery channel, wound it back in and got these sharkes every time. In the end it was quite an emmotional experience and my Mrs had to come and get me, lol:ermm:
I have looked on the net and I need to use colourful stuff as well, then I might attract other fish rather than these big frinking things (a 2 foot shark doesn't look that big until I got it 'almost mout of the water'.
I can't go fishing tomorrow as we are off to see this new zoo I'm promised is so good.
Thurday is cool for me if you fancy it?
You're Welsh? Jeeees, never had you down as a Welshman, where? I've done alot of things in Wales:bunny::bunny::bunny:

No I am not Welsh!!!
But I know some Welsh people and you would be surprised - they are mainly walking upright these days!

Shame about tomorrow - sack the Zoo and lest go fishing - the zoo will be there every day - the fish come and go.
If you had something aggressive interested from the Malecon then this is a rare thing.

You know you want to !!!!

You can resist anything but temptation....

Go on...do it...

They could do with a fishing thread on this site - ours could be the first photos...
This makes so much sense.....

(and a visit to the Colmado for supplies before you go fishing never hurt):bunny:

hahaha, I'm in Santo Domingo. Up at 8 and half a short walk down to the feet wrecker reefs, past a few Colmados and you might even meet the migrant fishfood I was talking about the other day, lol.
I can't let my girls down or I might get thrown to the lions when we do get there. If it looks like rain then I hear it is a good thing, no zoo, I'm sort of looking forward to it. One person left a review on the site, I want to leave a one about the actual zoo and not the none animal problem, haha!!
I'm up for Thursday, obviously they are feeding on something tasty down here if they are Dominican sharks they will not go anywhere in a rush, apart!
If it does rain then I'll give you a tinkle and we can head on into the unknown, cast lines and run back to the other side of the road to the Colmado and check the lines every few bevvies!!

Sounds good.
I shall pray for rain! LOL

Thursday I go back to the other side - not to return for an unspecified time.

My advice -

Buy some stainless steel leader and some ready rigged end tackle and take some photos....

Most sharks hang around the same reef ( Or Clubs ).

Please share the stories but more importantly it's the pictures that count!

Pedro, sorry bro do not agree with you there!! Shark is excellent!!! The nurse shark has excellent meat up to 1.5mtrs. The other species are good till about 4'. If they're bigger one has to keep the meat overnight covered in milk to get out the marisco. The bigger they are they might have mercury accumulated in their bodies and that's why I prefer the smaller ones.
Shark is also excellent to use in ceviche!!!

May want to move to Clown Bin

what do sharks like to munch on

Why Sharks Circle You Before Attacking

Two great white sharks swimming in the ocean spied survivors of a sunken ship. "Follow me son" the father shark said to the son shark and they swam to the mass of people. "First we swim around them a few times with just the tip of our fins showing." And they did. "Well done, son! Now we swim around them a few times with all of our fins showing." And they did. "Now we eat everybody." And they did.

When they were both gorged, the son asked, "Dad, why didn't we just eat them all at first? Why did we swim around and around them?"

His wise father replied, "Because they taste better without the sh*t inside!"

I was just lurking in the dangerous waters of DR1 just like I do, only to surface to post something once in a while. I had something else in mind, but when I saw this post I just had to reply to this.
This is a disgusting post. Is not like I am an animal rights defender. But with the situation facing sharks worldwide, the fisherman who posted here should be thrown to the sharks.
I understand that millions of sharks are being killed just to take their fins to satisfy the taste of the one-celled stoned age Japanese, who eat everything including dog manure. They hunt down poor whales like stray dogs, while whales make Dominicans and tourists happy by just being there.
That is why I have never felt sorry for the Americans dropping the bomb there. They should have dropped more. The Japanese are the creators of suicide bombing. They are heartless drones.
So anybody who behaves like this joins their club. Hunting a shark in our waters is even more horrendous. Animals of all makes are treated by Dominicans like roaches. We have about the worst record in the world for the conservation of our fauna. We do not need another predator, specially in a forum where people appear to be on the intellectual and civilized society.
So shame on you! What did you do with the shark? Are you so hungry you have to fish your own? No, what I suspect is that you have a need to take a life. Or was it that you need the fins because Viagra wont do?
I am a sport. But this is one of the most disgusting posts ever. And Frank, you came from Germany lured by by the beauty of our country. I hope you feel the same way.

Catch and Release, Golo.

You think that self respecting leisure/sport fishermen fish without being sensitive to the environment?
Not this one! And I suspect not Anastacio - not that he had the choice as he never landed the shark.
Generally the people with the most interest in protecting the marine environment are fishermen.

Golo - was it not you that posted the thread - "Why I hate the poor" - it was 8 years ago but I still remember.
Sometimes you get things a bit backwards, it seems.
