It is with profound sadness that I have to tell you that Charlie passed away very peacefully at 7 am our time this morning, with Whirleybird at his side.

With the fantastic help of Beeza, he flew to Scotland last week where the hospital quickly diagnosed that his cancer had returned and was unfortunately untreatable. They could, however, completely manage the pain so that he was very comfortable. He was thus able to spend his last week with his children, grandchildren and other members of his family.

Whirleybird flew out to be with him just under a week ago, and stayed with him in the hospital.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Shirley and the other members of Charlie's family.

We will miss him.

sorry to hear this news, at least you were given a little time to prepare yourself, although thats probably not much comfort at the moment.

I will speak to you when you feel like talking anytime

I hope that our sadness at your loss alleviates some of your grief.

I hope he is in a plane of existence where there are lots of good people and lots of animals, especially dogs. :cry:

Gone From My Sight

When my mom died, reading this poem softened the blow. Actually, it still does:

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts
for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come
to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says;
"There, she is gone!"

"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as she was when she left my side
and she is just as able to bear her
load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone
at my side says, "There, she is gone!"
There are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad
shout;
"Here she comes!"

And that is dying.

In this time of sadness, it is nice to know the doctors were able to help manage his pain.

In the end, that is all we can ask for any loved one in the same situation.

My sincerest condolences.
