A topic that I'm just iching to talk about!

Just about everyone I know has a rash of one sort or another and Ringworm is appearing to be high on the list, along with the common chafe, in our north coast area. Ringworm is NOT a worm but a fungus but can do a lot of damage if not treated and can be transferred around your own body and to others. Animals can be affected also, we are treating one of our horses and one dog. (Just an hour ago, I noticed Ringworm on a mans leg and asked about it in front of another man that lifted his shirt and was about covered, his wife has it too. My wife had it and I got it under my watch. I know 6 others in the last couple of days with Ringworm.)

Our prolonged heat and humidity have made conditions just right for Ringworm. Lotrimin is what is recommended but I don't think it can be found in the D.R. My wife brought some back from the U.S. on her last trip and we have been dispensing almost daily to others. We have not been able to find a similar cream/treatment here in the D.R. other then the recommended Mexana medicated power that works OK for chafe but does nothing to treat Ringworm.

From what I have read, Ringworm WILL NOT go away on it?s own and usually needs specific treatment.

Google to learn and please advise on ointments and treatments that you can recommend.

Thanks

You can definitely get ointment here to treat it, I had it a few years ago and got stuff from Santiago but can't for the life of me remember the name. You need to get rid of your old pants and bedsheets is the advice I got, and be careful who you are sleeping with. Took me about 4 weeks to get clean, constant bedsheets changes and clothes changes, ice packs and cold showers. Eat lots of Ginger and suck on clove of garlic during the day, works wonders on the scratching.

In my folk healing practice in Las Lomas de Azua, there hasn't been a case of ringworm that hasn't yielded to the application of a sliced clove of garlic to every lesion, right after showering, for two weeks. Results show just after two or three days. Also, I've noticed an association of ringworm with intestinal parasites, so I treat the parasites with crushed mango seeds or crushed papaya seeds.

VERY interesting. I think "modern" medicine is finally learning that some of the old ways are the best, and natural is best of all. I recently took a family member to a wound care specialist and was surprised when the doctor prescribed a natural honey for the wound: Medihoney Wound Dressings If I were young and starting a new career, I'd love to do what you are doing!

When I was younger my doctor recommended plain simple tincture of iodine applied topically two or three times a day. The itching stopped immediately and the ring worm went away. Whenever I or others I know have had an attack it again always worked. And its not expensive!!!

Ringworm or Katrijne wielen in Dutch (named after the Holey Catharina of Alexandria) are very contagious.
So treat them with medications or the old remedies from home and wash all clothes and bedcovers. Try to avoid close contact with any body (people and animals) for at least 48 hours.
They are hard to get rid from but perfectly curable if you pay attention to them.

Never had them myself although I have many animals but I am alway's aware if some of my dogs start to scratch and check them then for ticks, flees or ringworm signs but their diet contains garlic to keep ticks and flees away and works pretty well, even in this climate. You can get ringworm not only from animals but also just by contact with an infected person or a piece of clothing.

And AE : honey dressings is something I use already several years and is one of the best "old" remedies I have seen the last years.

I've received inquiries about my folk healing practice in Las Lomas de Azua through private message. I would like to extend a general invitation to all DR1 members to visit my compound, where I will hold a clinic and explain DR folk healing practices, including use of herbs, and faith healing. You are all invited to stay the weekend, and maybe I'll also show you the most pristine beach in the entire island: Cahobita. I do not charge. You will pay my time, with your time ; ) John

although I believe in your healing practices using herbs, and other natural items, I'm a little scared when I read faith healing.

I'm sorry, but would need some more info on that, before considering attending your clinic, which does interest me btw

There?s nothing to be afraid of. Actually, ?faith healing? is a term of convenience. ?Faith healing? is like aspirin, it works yet nobody know how. Faith healing? taps into something we are all born with. What is it? it?s a mystery. Feng Shui uses it. Also, when someone ask to take away the pain by laying of the hands. It has nothing to do with belief or religion, although it is often used in this context. I?ll explain more during the clinic.; )
