I like Coastal petrol station.

I like the fact the pump attendants won't rip you off by not zeroing the meter.

I like the little supermarket to stock up on essentials between major shopping trips.

I like it that is has a fairly reliable ATM machine.

I like it even more now that it has an ice cream parlour.

But one thing confuses me.

Every time I seem to visit, I always see bunches of Germans sat in the plastic chairs on the forecourt, smoking and drinking beer from bottles in paper bags!

Of all the places that there are on this tropical isle to enjoy a cold one, why do they choose a petrol station?

I don't geddit.:ermm:

Greg (American) made Coastal what it is to day. He built it, run it, poured his life into it and walked away with a very nice pay day.

When I lived in Italy and the "no smoking in the work place" law came in, everybody smoked at the gas station.
The gas station was where people went for an espresso of a morning.
Ergo everybody smoked at the gas station.

Brainless morons?

Yes!

People were very careful not to set off a hideous, deathly fireball when they smoked, however.

I don't guess you make by the fact, that a small group of "Germans" sit regularly at your favor gas station and drink Beer covered in Paperpacks, the Generalizing that all Germans are in General Morons or brainless Idiots who sit around american built Petrol Stations and smoke til all their Azzes are fired to Heck?
the well educated Topic of the Thread Reads "Is it a German Thing?",
exactly that Subject Title makes the Nonsense a American Thing.

of course only in my own humble Moron Opinion,
some others may name themselves capable of Generalizations,
of course only in Their opinion.

thanks
Mike

PS:
I will not add Stories about "Other Nationalities" hanging around Hookerbars with Minors paid to acompany them, my Mom gave me enough education on my way of live to not Generalize such on Their whole Country.

Hey Mike,

I thought you might bite, as our resident German on this forum.

There was no offence intended, but merely an observation.

I was wondering if a similar thing goes on in Germany? I have only been there a few times, but never really got to experience the culture.

They don't seem to be regulars at Coastal either. I see a different crowd every time. In fact yesterday it was a middle aged couple. She was reading a book and he was just sitting there watching the world go by, drinking out of the paper bag!

I was once castigated by a patron of said forecourt for driving up to the entrance of the store with my lights on. Well it was dark! He told me that my headlights were too bright and that they were blinding him! But he was sitting in a plastic chair on a petrol station forecourt at night!!! What did he expect?

As for the smoking...I thought that Peter might put a stop to this. Unless he is very well insured. Although I've heard that the business is up for sale.

Maybe the insurance company might buy it, which is why he provides the ashtrays!

in such case the Ashtrays would be the right motivation to suit the insurers, ha ha ha.
I don't know that Gas Station myself,
so are they sitting aside the fuel pumps there or is it in a distance in front of some kinda Minimarket, away from the fuel pumps?

Noap,
you could not smoke at a German Fuel Station, not even nearby, that would be like walking into a Bank's Frontdoor with the Face covered by a Skimask and a big shotgun in Hands, lol.

I am a smoker myself and always play it Safe,
when stopping at the Fuelpump I snip my cigarette butt out of the window to not have any danger IN my Car, he he.

Just my 2 ?:
1) The beer is cold
2) The place is safe
3) The light is good
4) It is near to their hotel/apt./whatever.

We used to have entire groups of Four Wheelers come in to my favorite Shell station after their rides.....

Oh well, I am sure they are far from the pumps..
