Gentleman,

I need your help.

I'm trying to determine if it is more cost effective to purchase a scooter in the USA or the DR.

A friend of mine needs a 50cc scooter on the north coast.

Now, in the USA a 50cc scooter will cost at most around $500usd.

How much will it cost to import it?

How much will it cost to purchase one in the DR (friend is willing to travel Santiago/Santo Domingo)?

Another friend of mine purchased a scooter on the north coast for around $850.00usd, but does this sound right?

Any insight is appreciated.

You're talking nickels and dimes difference in the net delivered price.

Thye main difference is the Extreme Hassle Factor of importing: arranging shipping in the states, clearing customs in the DR and transport to the North Coast.

Save yourself a bunch of baloney and buy one in the DR.

And I'd go for a 100+cc scooter. You'll be happy you did. The 50cc scooters work way hard and break way early.

In general scooters here are cheaper, and go for a 100cc or 125cc... 50cc is worthless here...

more than nickel and dimes.....I imported a pocket motor bike, 110cc from Canada and after shipping and taxes, I could have bought a car.....total cost of bike was RD$150,000.....my advice is to buy one here

Cost to Purchase?

Hey Guys,

Thank you for your help and insight. It's appreciated.

Does anyone know the price range for a 100cc scooter?

Or better yet, a website or store (again, he's willing to travel)?

I find it very frustrating trying to find this kind of information on the internet.
And even when I do find a store and call the sales person won't tell me the price range (he says just come to the shop).

So the information here is invaluable.

Why a scooter??? Potholes and small wheels are not a good combination.
Very true. Scooters are for totally smooth, flat pavement.

There are clutchless bikes if using a manual tranny on a bike is a problem.

THE most solid small bike out there is the Honda Super Cub 50-70-90-100. Not pretty, not flashy, but they have been refined over a 60,000,000 unit production run.

I hear Honda is about to begin selling the EV-Cub, an electric bike.

purchase or rent

Everything is cheaper in the states my friend, but this is a big but. The cost of shipping and hassle of shipping and paying all the fees ur not going to save much. You are probally better off buying there. Just do ur home work before u do
hope this helps
