This guy, Juan Luis Guerra is a flippin' genius, the best bachatero there is. This guy has it all. Ok, I know the album came out 4 months ago but damn its got a hypnotic melody to it. Hit for sure. Like Slick Rick would say, "There is no competition".

That's amazing, usually anything played in a colmado drives me mad but I quite like that, nice cooking music.

I dont know if they would play 440 in a colmado. Not enough Bass in his songs.

Another joint I found in the trunk of my car tucked deep in a corner somewhere;

Since you went off topic first you might also enjoy this one. I wanted to post the original by Yoskar Sarante but I found this on YouTube and these guys look like they are really enjoying themselves.

YouTube - LosChivosNJ.com-Porque muero

(if hearing two songs you need to pause the video in post one. post #1 video plays automatically when i open this thread)

Funny expats are such experts on bachata and many can dance really well too.
I ran into juan luis guerra in plane, from panama to santo domingo. he went out the vip way while we all got in lines to get through immigrations and customs.

I ran into Ramon Orlando one day but I didnt know who he was. He looked like some dude selling bootleg CDs which in actually were his new album on an independent label. When I was married my wife has a fit because I told her that I saw Ramon Orlando at Bryant Park and she almost detonated because she was way into his music. Never knew.

But I didnt know bachata y merengue are big in Japan. I was in LA in 2000 and they had a Dominican merenguero from Montreal come and do a concert in the concourse of Atlantic Richfield's HQ downtown LA. It was a great concert. All of those Mexican people dancing merengue and when you talk to them everybody is lying saying they are Porto Rican, from San Juan no less. They never heard of the Dominican Republic but they heard of Porto Rico.

In DR, you meet famous people on the street and no one bothers them. The other day I had a chat with ruby perez, he was in the mirador sur park just hanging out with friends. I was coming back from jogging and ran into him. We had a chat because he was our client at the clinic and i told him where were were located now. Our clinic has changed location so we make sure all of our clients know where we are now. He was there for more than 2 hours and everyone knew who he was yet no one came to bother him.
Just like that I was talking to a friend who was accompanied by a strong moreno dominican. The guy looked very familiar but I couldn't put my finger on who he was. I just thought I knew him from the gym. Anyway, the guy got interested in my profession and was wondering where I was from. I told him I was from pakistan and what I did here. he was surprised to see I spoke spanish very well. Then I introduced myself to him and promptly asked for his name. He was a bit surprised to hear my question, but he replied "manny Remirez". I still didn't get it so I asked him what he did for living. He laughed and said, I play for boston red socks. Hahahahaha. Needless to say, I felt so dumb. He was there for 2 hours working out, yet no one bothered him or asked for his autograph.

When my husband was a boy in Santo Domingo, in Matahambre there was an apartment bldg on Lincoln at Jose Contreras where a lot of the baseball players stayed while playing winter baseball. They'd all eat pizza at La Cotica on Lincoln, and share it with the neighborhood kids. They were all on first-name basis - he remembers Willy Kirkland the best among the American players [he always gave him pizza!], but Manny Mota, the 3 Alou brothers, etc. were there every night. He says now he understands why they loved it there so much - no one bothered them.

Lando Calrisian, ask your dad if he remembers that......?

JLG is about 50 so he'd probably be more flattered at being called a 'kid' than 'genius' these days! It's true that celebs are left alone here - the few times I've been in a public place like a cafe or restaurant and a well-known person is at one of the tables no one really makes a fuss. People might nudge and look but not in an intrusive way.

Years ago I was at a party where JLG was a guest and one of the younger attendees (it was actually his wife's niece's quincea?era) did a very unsubtle double-take when he walked past the area where the adults were sitting.

Aki me ense?o arigato gozaimase

yo cante tu bachata aqu? en Fukuoka

Pa bailar contigo

Se me alegra la nota

Quiero cantar contigo

Konnichiwa, ohayoh gozaimasu!

Pa bailar contigo

Se me alegra la nota

Quiero cantar contigo

Una bachata en Fukuoka

Pa' bailar contigo

Se me alegra la nota

Quiero cantar contigo,

Una bachata en Fukuoka.

Pa' bailar contigo

Se me alegra la nota

Quiero cantar contigo, una bachata en Fukuoka

Una bachata en Fukuoka

Besos me daba tu boca

Sue?os de arena en las olas

Tengo estrellas y rosas

Ni?a, cantando en Fukuoka

Pa' bailar contigo se me alegra la nota

Quiero cantar contigo una bachata en Fukuoka.
