This is our first time in PC, we will be staying at the Bavaro Princess, are there some parts of the resort that are better than other parts? obviously I don't want a room way in the back away from the beach. Does tipping the front desk during check-in help get a room in a "preferred area" of the resort?

if not mistaken they have Oceanview suites and such on their list of Sales, book it and ya get it.
