I am moving to Las Terrenas and need reliable hi-speed internet. The place I plan to rent has a strong cell tower close by and I am thinking about getting the Codetel wi-fi flash drive monthly plan. I'm trying to figure out if I can manage video streaming with this solution. I need to be able to do video conferencing via Microsoft Live Meeting. I'm not a techie so explanations via layman's terms would be very helpful.

I don't think so. Banda Ancha Claro is not there yet in terms of reliability.... I tell you what. I used the stick 100 mts from Codetel tower in Bavaro in Riu Hotels and at times I got only 56 kbps (same as dial-up modem).

Being close to the tower has nothing to do with the speed, only the signal strength. Speed is the same for everyone getting a good signal, but not more speed by being on top o it.

I agree with the last poster on this. Also they limit your downloads, and when you reach the limit it really crawls.
