I will be back there in a week or so and would like to buy a couple nice bikes, I have been trying to for a couple trips, There is a Bicycle shop in Santiago, but I was wondering if there was something closer where I could find a couple nice bikes. Thanks. BtC

I live in Sosua, I'm looking for just some around town transportation,like up to the store and back etc, so a couple single speeds with baskets. In the US something like that would run a couple hundred each for really nice cruisers. I have several bikes at home, and at work, I ride a mountain bike everyday so this will not be a new endeavor, I still probably wouldn't ride to Cabarete, that looks a little hairy even though I have seen guys doing it. you can buy bicycles in POP in distributorio gonzalez (central park) or in la sirena. nothing special but will do.
if i were you i would not invest much in bikes: very easy to steal and no one would care. buy something that rides ok but do not spend much :)
