Union Libre before marriage????

What, if any are the legal ramifications to signing a "acuerdo de union libre" for the purpose of Medical/ life insurance coverage for spouse, not legally married.

Does it leave the legal door open for an "acuerdo de seperacion de bienes" so that when we legally marry later?

What is an "acuerdo de uni?n libre"? Do you mean a signed acknowledgment stating that so and so is your companion in order to provide her with insurance coverage?

In any case, it has nothing to do with separation of assets. If and when you marry, you can choose to do so under community property rules or with a prenuptial agreement.
