Mi esposa's family just sent a package via UPS to us. In the package is a wedding dress. I am getting married to mi esposa in 3 weeks, (what do I call her then? lol).
Here lies the problem, the customs officials here in the D.R.want 7000 pesos in taxes even though the parcel is labelled a gift. The family put a value of U$200 for insurance purposes.
We have spoken to UPS both in Santiago, Santo Domingo and back in the States where the package was sent from and nobody can do anything about it, even though all three locations agree that the customs are completely wrong.
So now mi esposa has no wedding dress for our wedding...so does anybody here know any customs officials that would be willing to help out?
Many thanks,
Tony

Tell the customs official to send the dress back (and go to hell too - it's only inevitable anyway) and rent one here. They are relatively cheap.

Agreed. Send it back, and don't pay the b**tards a freakin' thing.

More people should do exactly the same thing. Customs have been ripping people off for far too long, and it has done nothing but hurt Dominicans, in the long run.

One only has to look at what is happening in Haiti to see what happens to a state that is being chocked to death by its own customs officials. Heck, those guys won't even allow in medical supplies and other donated goods. They are killing themselves as a result.
