I was looking at a sectional sofa to send to the DR.

JCPenney : Aspen 4 Piece Chaise Sectional

It says its made of "Pine plywood/mixed hardwoods. Acrylic/polyester upholstery"

Would this hold up well in Santiago (in a house closed up most of the year)?

You dont see much of these "fluffy" fabric sofas in the DR.

Go To "CONFERAMA" in SD

They have lots of "Secsionals",overstuffed furniture, couches.
Just remember, the "DR" is VERY tough on that type of furniture.
I buy "Caoba" furniture. Has cushions that can be replaced,or re-upolstered,"Cheaply" here.

Pine is suceptible to termite damage, hence it's lack of use. Mahogany and Oak are primarily used. That being said we brought some furniture from the States and it hasn't fallen apart yet so I assume they haven't got to it. Based on from what I've seen at your house you shouldn't have a problem. Take care and let us know when you'll be in town again.
