Does anyone know of someone who works on invertors, who specializes in them? We are having constant problems with ours, and every electrician knows a little bit about a lot of things, but no one seems able to deal with something more complex, and I am tired of having no backup power... anyone have someone to recommend?

How do you charge them?
Genset or Solar, wind??

I have 10 solar panels generating 2000kw's (195 per panel)

We use a generator as backup

I'm saving my money for a windmill to augment the solar.... it can get a little "iffy" in the winter months what with less daylight hours and cloudy days

Shortcut is add 2 more panels as a gapstop

Thanks..... its a good feeling knowing you power is not going to spike or disappear.

I have no idea what my costs would be if I was hooked up..... we did this from scratch

The pool pump is a separate system by itself.... no invertor/storage-- just goes by the sun.
My friend told me her pool cost her $300/month.
She put in my system for $5000 - if I recall correctly

Thats a pretty good payback

I have an inversor, just needs to be reconnected.

Is Freddy a place to go in person, get someone to come right with me, or can I call and ask for help right away? Found their number on the site link above. Thanks.

Could you give us a ball park figure on what that system cost installed?

Its costly..... batteries are $22,000... but not everybody needs that amount of storage.
Remember, this is my only power source

Solar panels are moving target for price.... but somewhere less than $900 each..... watch out for quality

Installation costs can vary

Use that e-mail address I gave earlier for Richard Ellis in Cabrera... he did mine

That falls into the range of calculations I came up with of about 35 to 40K $US to install such a system that could actually get you off the grid.
Are you using the 2 Volt style very large ROLLS batteries?

Yes, you are right

Batteries are the larger style... 20' tall, deep cycle... 36 in total... the newest gel type in fall of 2008

All this stuff changes- usually for the better and cheaper..

I'm not unhappy.... but it takes a careful attitude not to "blow" the investment.
Consequently, we never rent

But renting creates its own problems..... abuse, employee liquidation, time not available for our own use.... in no particular order

That would be a good thread...Perils of Renting.... the employee cost alone is huge!
