Hello Experts,

I need to purchase a scooter (50cc - 150cc, see links below).

This scooter is for a female so she can get to and from work,
and possibly a trip between Nagua and Santo Domingo.

Her budget is $1000USD or 36000-40000RDS.

She's willing to travel to anywhere on the North Coast, Santiago and Santo Domingo to purchase.

I know other Dominicans who have scooters like the one described and illustrated in links
below and they paid no more than 40000RDS.

However, everybody we've asked is quoting a price between 70,000RDS - 620,000RDS.

This is crazy!

I'm just looking for a small scooter to get from point 'A' to point 'B'.

On average she'll be driving at most 3-5 miles a day.

Can anybody help?

Does anyone know of any Scooter Dealer that I can call?

Or better yet a Website?

Are my expectations unreasonable?

I just found my paperwork in my scooter's glove box.

You can buy the Chinese scooters like I did for $1k U.S.

I bought a 150cc scooter/ pasaola for $40k DRpesos or $1100 $ U.S 2 years ago and with 4500 miles it works just fine.

You can purchase these anywhere like POP or Sosua and I bought mine in Puerto Plata from Guzman Moto Import 829 961 4459

The Yamahas cost the type of money you are referring to.

They may need less repairs but for 3 times the price of the Chinese scooters I would rather pay the $200 U.S it takes to maintain the bike per year and they don't steal these like they would a Yamaha.

Factor in depreciation and who knows what the cost to maintain a Yamaha is so once again ....

Thanks Mike!

This is exactly the kind of information/feedback I needed.

Hey Mike,

Do you mind sharing the Make/Model of the scooter you purchased?

I don't know anything about the Chinese scooters and would like to do a little research to make certain I purchase the right one.

Thanks.

I bought myself a moto/scooter ssangyong 125cc a couple of months ago. Asking price was 33,000 rds, after haggling a little it went down to 28,000.

I got 6 months guarantee, and up till now only had to use it as the gasmeter was not working as it should. They replaced it immediately without any complaints.

It is a nice, stable moto with plenty of power to take hills etc...

I did hear moto's are more expensive in the tourist areas, so maybe worth checking out la vega, as I heard they are one of the cheapest places.

I bought mine from a company named Pancho's, and they do have an outlet in Moca
