Hey, so my wife and I are celebrating an anniversary in Santiago soon and, due to various reasons can't do anything longer than a night. So, we've decided to go out to a nice restaurant, and then spend the night at the fanciest Caba?a we can find.

The problem is, neither of us has ever gone to one! We've heard that some of the upscale ones have jacuzzi/hot tubs etc., and that's kind of what we're shooting for. Most we're willing to spend is RD$2000. So, what do you guys/gals recommend?

Thanks in advance! :beard:

The nicest cabanas in Santiago are Bora Bora. The Karma Sutra suite cost 1,800 for 3 hours. It is 2 stories with a jacuzzi. A nice restaurant is Satay.

Excuse me, but WHO CARES if they have a hottub? What you want to know is HOW OFTEN DO THEY CLEAN THE HOTTUB? You arent the only couple that will stay there FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.

Sounds great! I wonder what the over-night rate is? I found their website, but the "rooms" page seems to be broken, so I guess I'll give them a call to ask.

Bora Bora Presidential suite is what you are looking for. Trust me. If it were summer time I would reccomend Mirage on the road to Navarette and get one of their upper end rooms because they have the outdoor Jacuzzi but its a little chilly right now. Helios also has very nice rooms and they have outdoor Jacuzzis also, Cant go wrong with Helios,Bora Bora or Mirage depending which side of town your on. Forget the rest.

All I'm saying is who the hell would want to use a jacuzzi in a cabana? Come on, you are only there for a few hours and then someone else comes(literally). Do they change the sheets? The linen? Do they clean the tub? Not only do they change them but do they clean them? You get a room with a jacuzzi you are not sitting there in the water reading the shop manual to a lawnmower. Guys are getting freaky in the hottub. You gotta be careful(read:hygenic). The jacuzzi in your room maybe more like a "jizz"-cuzzi. They don't clean the hotel rooms that thoroughly so how much energy could they put into cabanas with frequent visitors?

Go ahead man, do what you want to do, take plenty pictures. I'm just imagining you and your wife sitting there in the hottub getting it on while you are running up against the wall of the jacuzzi and touching some other dude's leftover wang juice and having it get stuck to your back hair and all. Your call. Sounds like a party at Caligula's house to me.

I know when I'm going to spend time in a hotel, especially Sosua, I bring my own sheets and pillow cases. NEVER EVER use their blankets, they never get washed. And if you have room in your suitcase, bring your own towels.
I can only imagine the health hazards that are in these Cabanas........
Probably cleaner in the back of a moto-concho.....

Never been to one.......never will. Even so, can you really see what is on the floors, jacuzzi water, blankets,...I was talking about hotels, motels, cabanas in general. Even when I would stay at a Hilton, I would not use the blankets. The sheets I'm sure are changed regularly but do you really think they clean the blankets after every use? It appears that RacerX has the same opinion as I.....
And even if they change the water in the jacuzzi every time, do they scrub down the walls in the jacuzzi every time?

What sticks to the walls now.....goes back into the clean water later...

It's just the idea of POSSIBLY, MORE THAN LIKELY, wallowing around in another mans jizzim that doesn't set well with me......sorry

Immaculate? Come on man, thats a stretch. Just because it smells like Bleach and Lumisol and there is blue water in the toilet does not mean its immaculate or even clean. If you stay in a place like Alberto Suite you can put more faith in the rooms being cleaner because there is a lavanderia on the ground floor but some cabana on the way out of town on Autopista Duarte?? Where are they washing this stuff? The blankets? You know the size of washing machines in this country and you can't put a blanket in it. So it means they hand wash it in a tub, maybe.

They(the maids) come in there make the bed, wipe down the tables, mop the floor, but that is way far from immaculate. Also, a wipe down does not equal a scrub down. I don't care what anybody says, many of the women who do these cleaning jobs dont know how to clean. They don't know how to sweep nor mop. They do that country cleaning thing where they just push water around and it is supposed to be cleaner than before.

Think about it man, they cannot be that clean. If you can afford a day you'll stay a day, but if you can only afford an hour then you'll stay an hour. So that room could have maybe 4-10 visiting couples daily? Man, if you put on your ultraviolet glasses that damn room might look like a Jackson Pollock painting with "nut juice" all over the place. And in the jacuzzi, that can only be worse. I know barrio women who won't touch that type of stuff(any container of water and electrical current) because they are scared of electrocution. So how are you going to clean it if you won't touch it?

you are guessing....thats a business, and maybe some use shortcuts, but the better ones operate ..well better...

they have a laundry facility on site....

sure if you are a clean freak maybe you would not go to one, or any resort hotel for that matter...everything you say could be true for any resort hotel

but these places have to do a better job, because all the patrons know whats going on and they know they dont want to mess around in other peoples soilings!

if you hate cabanas, thats fine....for all you worries, you must...so i wonder how you KNOW how they clean??

I have been in many..cheap to ultra high end...same goes for hotels...

id say the high end cabanas APPEAR to be cleaner than most RESORT rooms!!!!

just an opinion

We just had a thread about this the other day...basically no hotel room (even those that go for 5000 USD a night) is really clean, bu then again you can say the same thing about any place from the local supermarket to your local bar. Even just touching the handle on a door you're going to get some germs. I'm a bit of a germofobe myself (i.e. flush toilets with my foot, etc), but you just can't be that paranoid or you're just going to end up like those people with OCD. I pretty much live in hotels here in The US (due to work) and have stayed in Cabanas many, many times and I honestly can say most times I would prefer a Cabana to a hotel. If nothing else they tend to be more spacious and nothing beats their room service (i.e. being able to order anything you want to eat or drink 24x7. You can even order Viagra or La Pela - Not that I have, but it's on the menu...Let's see Hilton beat that).

You re guessing also. For all you know there may have been a gorilla orgy in the room the day before you stayed there. And keep in mind Fabuloso is not a real cleaning agent, it is only a fragrance. It has no soap in it. You mop a floor after a gorilla orgy with Fabuloso you havent done anything but push the bodily fluids around the room. And YOU want to get into the jacuzzi?

And who knows who the better ones are? YOU stayed in a resort where they charge more per room but you thought the room was not clean, so why would a cabana do any better when their most frequent visitors arent international tourists? And why would the locals complain about the cleanliness of the room and then turn around and buy unrefrigerated raw meat from a colmado?

Its amazing some of you guys and girls ever get laid,Way to much thought going into this simple subject, you may get hit by a car or your plane may crash, there is so much more to worry about in life, No wonder so many people need Viagra!!! Its a room with a bed, your there to get laid enjoy your 4 hours with your woman or man, who if he or she were that good a person you would probably be checking into a hotel rather than a short stay cabana.

Look man, I dont need you to get laid, nor a cabana, nor Cialis. I get into the ocean and I dont know everything that is in there but I m fine with it. I get on a plane and hope it doesnt crash, but I know the risks and I m comfortable with it. What I m not comfortable with is walking around with with the notion by-proxy that someone bust a nut on my back because I got in some filthy jacuzzi that was perceptively cleaned by someone with the lowest skill set in the country. I can eat raw hotdogs and bad Chinese food and have diarrhea but I draw the line on nuts on my back. That's just me. I dont know about you. I m too straight for that. I just wasnt raised to have nuts on my back. I mean seriously, I d rather take her into the woods and do it Adam & Eve style.
