In Mao, there is very little to do. I do not know if the old Samoa Bar is still there, it was once the center of all social activity there. The Hotel Caoba was recently refurbished and is supposed to be quite nice.

From Mao you can go to Laguna Salada and have chivo picante at Bar Sandra... or go further down the highway (which was under repair the last time I was up that way)to Hato al Medio for great chivo picante....

Or you go to Punta Rucia, the beach for the Mae?os.

In Santiago, depending on who you know and who they associate with, there are dozens of places for night-life..

The beach for Santiagueros is Sos?a.. and now Cabarete for the wilder crowd..

Check out Moncion while you are in Mao. It is up the mountain close to Mao.

go to new dam in moncion and see some natural beauty

as a moncionero, my favorite place in DR is in the mountains, not the overcrowded beach spots
plus these are the best/purest dominicans
just a bit prejudicial but hillbilly knows why i feel these way after 30 years
