Hi
Well, it looks like I might be trying this DR living thing. I have a couple questions. First, a little background on me...married my Dominican husband 2004, he's been living in Canada since 2005, have a 2 yr old son and now we would like to try there (Puerto Plata).

So, residency I think I get through marriage..is 2-4 months a good guess for processing time??

Do I really have only 6 months from receiving cedula to move my stuff duty free or can it be longer if we need?? Or should I plan my application for residency to coincide with move date.

Do I have to own my vehicle for minimum 2 yrs in order to move it or can I get something newer before I go??

Anyone here ship personal items from Canada? shipping company?

The hope is for us to move by Oct-Dec 2011. that gives us just under a year to get everything in order.

Thoughts? I know some of this has been answered but I've been reading and reading posts and getting confused now. And I know I could have seperated this into a few but I"m hoping someone will have all the answers :)

Thanks, guys. I currently drive a 2006 Ford Escape so will likely bring that (even though I was hoping to get something else before going but not if there is a 1 yr rule).

As for citizenship..I might go that route too. Not sure what's better so should research a bit more.
Thanks, again

Be careful of the 5year rule. Any vehicle more then 5 years old cannot be imported.
