Most of the companies I need to contact only have a toll-free 1-800/866 phone number.

Is there any way I can make toll-free calls from the DR? I know they're only toll-free if I'm calling from within the US, but there has to be way...

Thanks.

From what I understand:

Calling 800 numbers in DR
If 800 use 880
If 888 use 881
If 866 use 882
If 877 use 883

They are not free here, and perhaps even a higher rate then calling regular numbers in the U.S.

Sure, you can make toll free numbers to the US using Skype. One option is to get a US number from Skype. I pay Skype US$5 or $6 a month, for which I have a US number so that people in the US can call me at that number and I can call any phone in the US without paying anything additional.

If you don't need a US number that permits people in the US to call you without making an international call, then use Skype Out. Deposit US$10 or whataever you want and make calls to US numbers until the amount is used up. For you, the good thing is that there is no charge for calling 800 numbers.

Business people all over the world are using Skype to avoid paying toll on international calls

I don't know if the same is true for Google Voice, but with Skype Mobile you do not need to be at your computer to make a Skyipe call. My son makes a lot of international calls to clients and others using Skype, but as often as not, the call is being made on his Droid

With his droid he can make regular calls, or Skype calls. To make either, he needs to have an active cell phone, that is all that is needed. For Skype calls, no need to be at or near a computer or in a wifi location. As long as he is in a location where he can make cell phone calls on his droid, he can allso make Skype calls.

I use Magic Jack for toll free calls. It works well. You pay a small annual fee for a Magic Jack membership which includes a USA or Canadian phone number for incoming calls. You can make calls from either a computer or a smart phone with the Magic Jack app. Skype works well for free Skype to Skype calls. You need a decent internet connection to use either service......

If you have access to wifi, you can use the app called Hangouts Dialer. It is free and works just like you're making a regular telephone call. I have used this many times from the DR.

Gmail has a phone plugin and it will let you call free any number to usa and canada, including 800 numbers.
