Yes indeed many whales have arrived.........mostly from Quebec and Ontario. They feed at the troughs in the AI's. To view them in action one should get in the conga line at the all you can eat buffets. Happy huntin.

Dear dv8: If you contact Kim Beddall, I am sure she will tell you all about it.

You can be pretty sure that there are whales in the bay. go and enjoy. It is an exciting and moving experience...I can guarantee that...However, nothing in this life is 100%...

Take lots of sunblock and dramamine..

DRE: That was insane!! Highly incorrect and not proper conduct around whales.
50 meters is supposed to be the closest.

I am glad you no longer do this..

i went to see them buggers once and i saw one from few meters away, as the only person on board. whale swam right under the boat and i was the only one bending over to vomit, everyone else was standing up with cameras ready :)
and it was the whale who breached regulations :) we were not moving. except up and down. and then up. and down...

That's true, same here when I went. I think the whales should respect the rules as well.

DRE: I am glad, but you should have told him. The whales are bigger than most boats and if they get p!ssed off, you have a lot of people in the water.

The whales do not have to obey rules, they ARE the rules, and as a gift to Man, we can sometimes share some of their majesty...

IF I remember correctly, the proper proceedure is to idle the engines and drift (which explaines DV8's chucking....(Poor thing!)...and if the whales are curious, then THEY can come closer, but it is up to them...

There was a case last year up near Turks & Caicos, I think, where some divers were near a whale and her calf...and apparently (whales do not talk much to reporters) the momma was napping and awoke with a start. Her tail whacked one of the divers either killing him or really hurting him...(I guess nobody here has ever been in a stall with a pure blood Hereford or Jersey bull that gets playful!!)

Distance is important....

I was being ironic about the rules of course.
I was on Kim's boat and she really respects the whales and gives a great tour. Just as we were following a pod at a good distance, a huge, hitherto unseen, female breached just next to the boat.
Something to behold!

Sorry the pictures are not that good but the boat was rocking pretty good and the gentleman with the hat would not let anybody by to take photos!
This is about the fourth or fifth full breach and was a bit far by then.
The Mama whale was closer than it seems in these pics.
Going again this year!

been quiet some choppy waters on the Fotos above,
not a Day for DV8, lol.
we saw the first Humpbakcs here in PC while Fishing offshore more than a week ago,
so the Samana Bay should also provide a good number arrived to find them on the Tour.
the Full Population should be here by Months End.

a Skipper who stays just a few meters aside of the appearing Animals has to be taken off the Job, the same for a Tourguide who allows such.
a Whale can appear right aside unexpected, but that's when You start right away to drift away and keep the save distance, for safety And to not bother the Animals.
a Humpback could with a slap of the Tail easily take the Biggest of those Whale Watching Boats apart and send it to rest on the Bottom of the Sea.

beautiful Animals and every Time again amazing to watch.

Happy Watchings

Saw one yesterday splashing and jumping in the water off the cliffs of Cabrera. Also, Francis, the owner of Manny's Bar & Restaurant on the cliffs has seen spotting several of them throughout the week, so they are definitely here! :)
