What precautions should one take when traveling in the D.R. now compared to two years ago?

Is it more dangerous now then before because people in the D.R. are suffering due to decrease in tourist spending?

Which areas are more dangerous than others in the tourist areas?

Nah. The rank and file are suffering about the same. Where you've got to really be careful is on those layovers at MIA, FLL or ATL. It's getting crazy down there. On top of all the newly unemployed people who've been forced out of their foreclosed homes you've got talk of privatizing the TSA inspectors as contract airport employees and they're taking out their frustrations on the patdowns.

Seriously, the DR is every bit as safe as it was two years ago. They're experiencing steady economic growth and stability.

I think people in the DR should take precautions....save for a rainy day because the DR doesn't get affected at the same time as 1st world countries but it trikles down.... if the US and others are feeling the economic situations unfortunalty it will affect the DR also.
