Default good news about expired cedulas

    news from el caribe:
ElCaribe.com.do | Con Todo A Cada Minuto - Jce Da Plazo A Extranjeros

in short, JCE will pardon gringos with expired cedulas. you can get the updated cedula between 25th of january and 30th of april for a flat price of 1000 pesos. no extra charge for every expired month.
on the other hand if you do not get a new cedula your old one will be susspended. whatever that means.

...and I just went there with a couple of friends (Santo Domingo)!
    It costs RD2,000 + RD1,000 fine = RD$3,000, new cedula is good until 2017.
If your old cedula is still up to date or expired recently it is "only" RD2,000.

All they asked for is a valid residency card, the old cedula, a passport and of course the money which has to be paid before you start the process.
BTW, while you are paying they check if you are in the system.
No filling out, just confirming that the data they have in the computer is correct. The picture is taken and printed directly into the plastic form.
All together it took us about 20 minutes for 3 guys.
