In some travel books, I've read that Carnival is celebrated every Sunday in February. The DR tourist board said the same, yet I've also read that communities tend to pick just one Sunday in the month.
We'd love to observe a celebration if one is happening close to either Santa Domingo (our trip starting point) or Samana (our ultimate destination) on Sunday, February 13. It doesn't have to be the biggest and most elaborate Carnival such as we would see in La Vega. We appreciate smaller village traditions if there is something to see (i.e. masks, parade, etc.) as long as the celebration doesn't involve bull whips! :cheeky: Do you know of any?
I think La Vega is too far away given our plans, but it would be hard to miss if they are going to be celebrating on the 13th. A search of the web suggested the date had not yet been set. Does anyone know for sure when the big celebration is?
