I understood it all but I totally missed the point he was trying to make, and who he was aiming to impress besides himself.

It's a sketch done for fun, what did you expect? Most young Dominicans or Jevitos will laugh at this, just look at the comments on YouTube.

The guy in the video is from a middle class family, you only have to look at him to know that, he's not a street tiguere :)

I got that it was a joke I'm not Dominican enough to think he is funny. I don't think a real tiguereje is funny either. Must be why I couldn't watch it. ACK!

It was about the number of animal references he could pack into a simple monologue, which I thought was well done. His attempt at tigueraje was too contrived though.

Very close, but, falta algo mas.
He is trying to make fun about how low class dominican talk. they use any kind of animal words to make references to a person or a situation.
ie:
GATO = cat = ladron (someboy who steal). Ten cuidao con ese gato (be careful with that guy)
PAJARO = bird = gay
GORILA = maton
TIGUERE=tiger=tipo que sabe demasiado
ponerse CHIVO = goat = to be afraid.
COTORRA, LORO = parrot, somebody who talk too much. Esa es una cotorra, ese tipo es un loro.
PIOJO= louse= midget, enano. Mira a ese piojo andando con ese mujer?n.
GRILLO = cricket = whore, puta. Esa tipa priva en seria y es un maldito grillo.
CACATA = an ordinary and ugly girl. Y qui?n va a salir con esa cacata?
etc, etc, etc

guys just don't get it. The comments are also written in "coro" (tigre language-talking to your pana). Funny people who live in real cities and interact with real dominicans knew right away it was a comedy sketch (actually a challenge presented to the guy) but the resort gringos just didn't have a chance to understand what was going on here. Just by reading comments on dr1 makes me laugh. Some folks have no clue. Hahahaha

Yep, that cracks me up too. Many of the dominican slangs are sometimes taken from english.

For example: A polo shirt is a "Polo-che"

A safe can is called a safacon

Chill/cold vs hot (Tu estas frio conmigo= you are cool with me or I am not upset at you.

They use hot as the opposite of cold
Hot: Caliente, if you are not cool or I am upset with you "tu estas caliente conmigo",

Heavy: eso esta "jevi", I don't know where they associate HEAVY with cool, I don't know if they got it from the Beatles song (I want you, she is so Heavy)

Also some words are shorten

Voy pa' lla: voy para alla (I'm going there)

Tu estas: Tu 'ta (you are)

Esta todo= 'Ta to' (understood)

Also some are used by correlation

Te voy a dar luz=I am gonna shed some light on you/let you know something or show you or explain

Te voy a dejar obscuro= I am gonna leave you in the dark, not tell you anything

Le Patina el cloche= his clutch is slipping (He is crazy)
also "le falta un tornillo"= he is missing a screw (he is crazy)

I thought this guy spoke Spanish too well to be a real tiguere. Furthermore, I believe he said "andaba yo a Moca" but this guy didn't have a cibae?o accent at all. His accent almost sounded boricua to me so I believe he had to be from SD; correct me if I'm wrong.

From his accent you can tell he is "sureno" from the south part of the island.
he does not say "Andaba a Moca"
He sais Andaba yo moca...meaning he was feeling fly...walking with a swagger.

You guys are making too much out of this, its just a sketch of some none-tiguere Dominican making fun of the way real tigueres talk.
