DR tradition? Who pays for wedding?

In Uk, father of the bride usually pays for weddings. but how about over in DR? or the rest of latin/central america?

out of interest, what is the official gringo meaning? my fiance is from costa rica, but lives in DR for the last 4 years. She says where she comes from it stands for Gringo or "Green Go!" which is an insult used to tell the american army to go army whenever they interfere in surrounding countries.
