I have always been surprised that there are so many Americans and other foreigners in the Dominican Republic who do not know each other, who are not connected, missing many social and business opportunities. I would like to arrange a networking gathering in Santo Domingo and am trying to gauge interest. If enough people respond I will set up a meeting place in the near future. Would ask for a small charge to cover refreshments. If interested, please respond to csfarrell123@aol.com.

Charles, I have a personal rule: never "network" with someone with an aol email address.

Keeps me out of MLM presentations...;)

A get-together where the host is requesting the guests to chip in for their own refreshments and no specified purpose for said get-together?

Good luck with that one.

Agreed, total turnoff asking for something right off the bat. When people are looking for a reason to say no anyway. You would have a much better shot if YOU were offering the refreshments....(step one, GETTING THEM THERE) What's more important? the refreshments, or the networking?....This is a small example of "The bait and switch"....IT WORKS, just walk into any car dealership in the US. But that's another story for another time.

Then when you have built your network of loyal followers....(probably not gonna happen, but stay positive..)...ask for people to pitch in. It's much easier this way. I know your trying to be upfront and honest. But this is not always the best approach....(at least in the beginning, when trying to organize)
