:cheeky:We are six law students travelling to Puerto Plata in a couple weeks and will be staying in Costambar for 7 days this March. We have a few questions about local events during that time as well as local recommendations for the area.

I have been reading the Costambar Monthly and wanted to know if there were any other recommendations for restaurants or local food to try while we are there. We are also interested in volunteering one day as well. Suggestions?

We plan on attending the Kiteboarding Competition in Cabarete one day during our stay. Is there any recommendations as to any other events?

The men from our group will be golfing at Playa Dorada one day during the trip. The girls would like to know if we can get a one day pass to any of the nearby resorts? Also, any recommendations on travel options from Costambar to Playa Dorada golf course and resort?

We are also wondering how much money to bring ($US) since we will be buying food from local markets and cooking. Some of our group will be doing excursions and others just enjoying the beach and snorkeling. Any recommendations are much appreciated!

We are really looking forward to visiting this beautiful country!

You may consider going to the restaurant, show and casino at Ocean World in Cofresi. It is about 15 minutes away. The ladies can get a day pass at pretty much any hotel in Playa Dorada without too much trouble.

You will have a great time in Cabarete ,great beach and lots of restaurants there to choose from.

If you want to do something local check out Rancho Tipico Puerto Plata on a Friday / Saturday or Sunday night for local music and dancing.

Travel options- a good taxi driver with a van. I can recommend someone privately if you are interested.

Golf at Playa Dorada will cost about US$100 per head. A day pass to a hotel about US$30. Tours up to US$100 each. If you eat & drink in Cabarete you will need another US$100 i reckon.

If you bring US$100 per day you should be alright.

If you pm me your email I will gladly add you to my mailing list for the Gym Bar :)

Have a great time!

I was in Costambar area this January and went to Playa Dorada for a day pass. We ended up at Barcello and it cost us around $40 US each from 10 AM - 5 PM. You get all inclusive drinks, lunch and they have a snack bar which serves an all day long hot buffet ... the only thing is that I didn't care for the selection of food as much as I did when I stayed at Gran Ventana or Victoria. The grounds and pools were nice and there was entertainment etc though. We tried going to Gran Ventana and Victoria and were told that they were not issuing day passes at the time. Perhaps you could check out Iberostar, I've heard others say that it's very nice. Enjoy your trip!

I thought I'd add, if you are iterested in taking a snorkelling trip, I have taken the catamaran trip 2x now from Playa Dorada to Sosua with Avlav tours. They take you from around 8 AM to 3 PM and it includes lunch and drinks. They take you to snorkel on the reefs in 2 locations near Sosua and they film you feeding the fish etc... it's quite fun and the crew is very entertaining. You can purchase the tickets at the Plaza in Playa Dorada, there's an American girl working there and she'll give you a price of $50 which is a lot less than the people selling the same packages from the hotels or sales men on the beach who charge up to $90 for the same excursion because of the commission... Avlav has all kinds of other trips available too. Hope you have fun. Cheers. Shiraz.

While in Costambar, consider a day or a few hours at Lucy's Spa.
Great massage, manicure, pedicure, facials and more.
Just ask for Lucy, everyone in Costambar knows her and knows of her business.

Hi dv8
Lucy's Spa is at #14 Pińon, next to the office of Polanco.
She has a sign in front of her business.
